    Configuring for Bridge Mode
Before proceeding, be aware of the following:
  • By placing your DSL router in bridge mode, you are foregoing the basic firewall protection that the Comtrend router provides while in router mode.
  • By placing your DSL router in bridge mode, you will be required to configure PPPoE (PPP over Ethernet) on the device you are directly connecting to the DSL modem. For instance if you are using a wireless router, you will need to configure its WAN port to authenticate via PPPoE. If you are connecting a PC directly to the DSL modem, you will need to use PPPoE software on your PC to authenticate.
  • By placing your DSL router in bridge mode, only 1 device may be directly attached to the DSL modem. In order to use more than 1 computer through the modem a additional router will be required which will be the 1 device plugged directly into the modem.

  • Before you start, make sure of the following:
  • Unplug the phone line from the modem while doing this and plug it back in once your modem is in bridge mode.
  • Reset the modem back to factory defaults by holding the small button on the back of the modem for about 10 seconds while the modem is powered up.
  • You are successfully able to log into the modem.

  • 1) From a web browser, go to "http://192.168.1.1". Login with the username "admin" and the password "admin".

    2) Click the "Basic Setup" link at the top of the page.

    3) Click on the "WAN Setup" link on the left.

    4) Checkmark a check box under the "Remove" column, then click the "Remove" button. Perform the same procedure for the remaining service.

    5) Click on the "Add" button.

    6) Ensure the the interface listed in the drop down filed is set to "atm0/0_0_35", then click the "Next" button.

    7) Change the radio button to "Bridging", then click the "Next" button.

    8) Click the "Apply/Save" button.

    9) Click on the "Logout" button at the top of the page, then power cycle the modem.

    10) You are done. The modem is now in bridge mode and will no longer provide you an IP. You will now need to use an external router capable of PPPoE or a PPPoE dialer on your PC. If you need to re-access the modem, you will need to manually assign the IP 192.168.1.10 to your PC with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0, then you can access http://192.168.1.1. If you need to return your modem back to router mode, press the reset button until the lights flash red on the modem, then release.

    Configuring Pinholes/Port Forwarding
    1) From a web browser, go to "http://192.168.1.1". Login with the username "admin" and the password "admin".

    2) Click the "Basic Setup" link at the top of the page.

    3) Click on the "NAT" link on the left.

    4) Click on the "Add" button.

    5) Check if the setup you need is in the pre-configured list under "Select a Service".

    6) If not, create your own by selecting the "Custom Service" radio button. Put a descriptive name in the field to the right of the button. In the "Server IP Address" field, enter the IP address of the device that is to use the service. NOTE: you will likely need to add a static IP address to the device. As an example, here we are adding ports needed for Xbox LIVE (per http://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-live/connecting/network-ports-used-xbox-live). Once you have added your desired port forwards, click the "Apply/Save" in the middle of the page.

    7) If you specify a port that the router uses for the management of the router, you will see this. Click OK.

    8) You are now done.

    Configuring WIFI/Wireless
You have your choice of one of two ways to enable the wireless access point in your SEI provided Comtrend AR-5312U/5319U modem:
      A) Easy way by pressing a button and using preset defaults.
      B) Personalized approach (you can set your own SSID & security).

    Easy setup:
    1) On the front of your modem, there are 2 physical buttons. Press and hold the one labeled "WiFi/WPS" for approximately 5 seconds until the "WiFi" LED turns on.

    2) On your WIFI capable devices, you will then connect to the SSID "ComtrendXXXX" where XXXX are the last 4 characters (in capitol letters) of your modem's MAC address. There is a sticker on the bottom of your modem with this MAC address.

    3) Security is enabled by default using WPA2-PSK. The WPA2-PSK encryption key/passphrase is printed on the label on the bottom of the modem, titled WiFi Key. NOTE: The characters in the key are case sensitive.

    * For example, if your MAC address is "3872C0A1B2C3", then your SSID would be "ComtrendB2C3" and if your WPA2 encryption key/passphrase is P4sSpHR4s3, then you would type P4sSPhr4s3, using upper and lower-case characters as needed. Also note, there are no letter o's in the MAC address, they are zero's.

    Personalized setup:

    1) From a web browser, go to "http://192.168.1.1". Login with the username "admin" and the password "admin".

    2) Click the "Basic Setup" link at the top of the page.

    3) Click the "Wireless" link on the left.

    3) Checkmark "Enable Wireless", and change the "SSID" if you wish, then click "Apply/Save". (By default, wireless is disabled but the SSID is ComtrendXXXX, where XXXX are replaced with the last 4 characters of your routers MAC address).

    4) Click the "Security" link on the left. You can change your encryption passphrase/key here, or you can view the current one as well. If you change it, be sure to click the "Apply/Save" button. (By default the passphrase/key is printed in the "WiFi Key" field on the bottom of the router). To view the present passphrase/key, click the "Click Here to Display" link to the left of the "WPA/WAPI" passphrase" field.

    5) Click on the "Apply/Save" button. Wireless access is now enabled.
