Setting up a port forward (pinhole) on the SEI Data provided Netopia DSL Router

Warnings:
  • By enabling a port forward on your Netopia, external traffic to this port will always be passed on to your internal defined system.

Requirements:

  • Netopia 3341 ADSL Modem purchased from SEI Data.
  • You must already have connectivity between your computer and the DSL router.

Before you start:

  • This guide assumes you are able to access the Netopia's configuration URL, if not you will need to reset the modem back to factory defaults and re-enter your SEI Data username and password in the appropriate section.

1. First, open a web browser and type 192.168.1.254 in the address bar and hit return. However if you have changed the IP address of your router at some point, use the appropriate IP address.

If you are prompted to log in, for the Username/Login type "admin" and for the Password type "admin" (unless you have changed this, in which case log in using the appropriate login information).

2.

Click on "Expert Mode".

3.

Click on "OK" if you are warned about entering Expert Mode.

4.

Click on "Configure".

5.

Click on "Advanced".

6.

Click on "Pinholes".

7.

Click "Add" in the Pinholes box.

8.

Enter a name to identify this pinhole, select the type of protocol, the starting external port, the ending external port, the internal IP of the PC/system you wish to be remotely accessed, and the internal port number. Then click "Submit".

(in my example here I'm forwarding secure shell - ssh)

9.

This will return the same screen. Now click the Alert button (the yellow triangle in the upper right corner).

10.

Click on "Save and Restart".
