Getting a Library Card at JCPL:

To be eligible for a free card you must

  • be a resident of Jennings County.
  • pay property taxes in Jennings County.
  • have a valid card from a reciprocal library.
Without one of these three qualifications you must purchase a Public Library Access Card (PLAC card) or a non-resident card. Fees for these cards are adjusted annually.

Lost library card replacement charge is $1.00.

checkout policy :

  • The maximum number of materials that may be out at any time on a card is ten (10). The length of checkout varies with format, and it is the patron's responsibility to be aware of these variances and return materials on time and in good condition. A patron will receive a receipt of all items checked out with their due dates. It is suggested that the receipt be attached to the refrigerator door.
  • Loan period:
    • Books, Audiocassettes, CDS, Art prints: 21 days.
      Renewal on an item is allowed unless another patron has a reserve on it.
    • Videos/DVDS : 7 days (See video policy below)
    • Magazines: 7 days.
      May check out up to a maximum number of 5. Magazines cannot be renewed. Current issues do not circulate.
  • Fines per item per day is 25 cents for all materials except videos; fines per video/DVD per day is $1.00.
  • Borrowing privileges may be suspended for excessive fines or for lost library materials.
  • Holds on items may be made in person, by phone, or by email. Holds for books transmitted to us via email are checked once a day, Monday through Friday.

Renewals:

  • If not on reserve, items may be renewed in person, over the phone, or online. By phone call 346-2091. State your name and the title of each item you want renewed. To renew online establish a PIN number with the library so that you can access your record.
  • Videos and magazines may not be renewed.

video policy :

  • Videos/DVDs are used at the patron's own risk. The library is not responsible for any damage to VCR/DVD equipment.
  • Videos are checked out on a first come, first served basis; however, reserves will be taken on videos which are part of a series.
  • A family or household may check out four videos. All four may be from the children's or adult section or from both.
  • Videos may be restricted for children as advised by a parent or guardian.
  • There is no renewal on videos/DVDs.
  • Fines are $1.00 per day per item.

internet policy :

  1. Internet connection shall be provided for the purpose of enhancing and extending the information resources and services of the library.
  2. If there are any violations of the library rules and accepted Network etiquette, the user may not be allowed access to the library Internet computer workstations.
  3. Library internet users:
    1. May not display, transmit or print obscene, abusive, or sexually explicit information.
    2. May not violate any local, state, or federal statutes.
    3. May not vandalize, damage, or disable the property of another person or organization.
    4. May not access another person's materials, information, or files without the direct permission of that person.
    5. May not violate copyright, or otherwise use another person's intellectual property without his/her prior approval or proper citation.
  4. All users of the library Internet computers must have and/or demonstrate appropriate computer knowledge and skills.
  5. Access to some Internet resources may be restricted in accordance with library's information selection policy.
  6. Children or minors may have access to Internet restricted by a parent or caregiver.
  7. The library shall not be held responsible or liable for:
    1. Personal information stored on library computer systems.
    2. Information retrieved or personal property used to access the library computers, networks, or online resources.
    3. Unauthorized financial obligations resulting from use of library resources and accounts to access Internet.

conference room policy :

Basic Policy:

  • Conference rooms are scheduled first come, first served.
  • All rooms must be scheduled in advance.
  • Rooms may be scheduled up to 3 months in advance
  • NO activity shall be scheduled that :
    • may endanger the safety and security of the library patrons.
    • sells products, i.e. product parties. etc.
  • No charge will be made for the use of the conference rooms but donations are favored and encouraged.
  • Meetings scheduled from outside the county shall have Jennings County sponsors, either individual library patrons or groups. All exceptions must be reviewed and approved by the director.
  • Conference rooms will be scheduled during regular library hours. Other times will be arranged one week in advanced with prior review and approval of the director. Groups are expected to depart by the agreed times. Excessive overtime may be billed to the offending group (30 cents per minute).
  • Everyone must follow the library rules and guidelines.
  • Rooms must be left in the same condition.
  • Minors must be supervised by an adult.
Priority of Use:

  1. Library programs
  2. Non-profit educational/cultural events
  3. Profit organizations for educational purposes
  4. All other activities/events shall be reviewed case by case.
  5. The library reserves the right to cancel or move any meeting that conflicts with library priorities or the group fails to follow the library rules of behavior.
