Hi Everyone, 6-8-97 Tenth in the series. Last Tuesday I took the day off work to load Sky Arrow up on the flat bed trailer. Took us 3 hours to get everything foam packed. We didn't get more than 20 mins from home that we were pulled over by 3 State Troopers, and Sheriff. Talk about a bunch of flashing lights! Apparently they had gotten a Tip that there was going to be prison break out, and that the get-a-way vehicle was a helicopter. Well when we drove by someone thought that was the helicopter, so the police were very excited. Until they saw the wings that is! We finally got to the local airport, and got the wings on and wheeled into the hanger when it started to lightly rain. Whew that was a close one. After a couple more hours of prep we called it quits for the day after 8 hours, I was bushed. Wednesday we headed back after the skies cleared a bit for high speed taxi tests. After zinging up the runway 3 times Dad taxied back to the hanger and we took the inspection panels off and tightened a few bolts that were never torqued. I pretty much expected that since there are so many, and that we pretty much assembled and dissembled everything at least 3 times! Then at 7:00pm the clouds finally moved off. And there was much rejoicing! The wind was dead still, so after a brief radio check it was time for first flight! For a first flight, it went perfect! Dad was up for an hour and made a perfect landing. We still have a few things to tweak. The prop needs to be adjusted one more degree, and I have to flip the electric trim wires because I wired it backwards. Oops. If it ever stops raining around here, we will continue flight test. For those that have Web access, check out all the new photos, animations, movies, and sound clips under the Sky Arrow sub page of the First Flight. I even impressed myself with the cool things you can do with HTML! http://seidata.com/~jzigan Jim
