Nearly 70 Mini-4-H'ers converged on the Ripley County Fairgrounds
Park on Saturday, July 10, and enjoyed events from 9:00 a.m.
until noon.
Those who qualify to participate in the program designed to
introduce them to 4-H, have completed either kindergarten,
first or second grade.
Several 4-H clubs were represented as fifteen Junior 4-H Leaders
helped with the event, which was headed by Adult Leader Mindy
Koehne, who is a long-time 4-H member.
Koehne explained that the children worked on projects on Saturday
that they can display at the 4-H Fair, which is scheduled for
the last week of July. They were also given the option of working
on a project independently and bringing it to the fair. "It's
just a way to have them participate and become used to the
process," she noted.
Children moved from station to station on Saturday, making
pictures of sheep and cows with bean art, making projects with
foam art, playing games such as twister or circle, and learning
about germs by looking at their hands through a machine showing
what your hands look like before and after washing. They were
also given a tour of the Fairgrounds Park.
Refreshments were served, compliments of McDonalds.
The day went well according to Koehne, who noted that each
child received a T-shirt and certificate at the end. She was
quick to say she couldn't possibly have done it by herself. "I
want to thank Pat Spurlock, Julie Dudley, Chelsea Dwenger,
and Karen Osborne for their help," she concluded.
