A rash of burglaries in the town of Versailles has three police departments involved in the investigations. These break-ins occurred sometime after midnight and into the early morning hours of Wednesday, July 21, with the first report to 911 coming in at 4:40 a.m.

According to Sheriff Bill Davison his department alone is working eight cases, and he says at least a dozen vehicles were broken into. Of greatest concern is the fact that there were four homes broken into while people were sleeping.

The burglar or burglars rifled through handbags mostly taking cash and many prescriptions were reported missing or messed with. One handgun has been reported missing.

Sheriff Davison said none of the vehicles were locked giving burglars easy access and entry was made into the homes through unsecured windows.

Along with the sheriff's department are the Indiana State Police and Versailles Police Department investigating these burglaries that occurred mostly around Main Street and Tanglewood Road areas.

If anyone has seen anything suspicious or knows about this illegal activity they are urged to call police at 689-5555 or 689-5000.

In the meantime, the sheriff urges residents to lock their vehicles and make sure windows and doors are secured in their homes.
