INDOT considers Sunman for local field office
Cathy May - Contributing Writer
Sunman may rent their former town hall to the
Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT). They are looking
for a local field office while the two rest stops on I-74 are
renovated. They will need the field office for about two years.
The town decided to apply for a new Rural Development Partnership
Program Grant through the Indiana Department of Commerce for
their proposed sewer line to Penntown. They feel this is a
broader grant that would better suit their needs. Applications
are due August 31.
John Graf of Howard Barth and Associates has received the
storm sewer results which will make changes and update necessary
on the Eastern Avenue Project. He presented a contract addendum
not to exceed $27,360 for the work. Since the county is the
lead agency on this project, the County Council wants a breakdown
as to who pays for what and will not sign the addendum until
that is done.
In other business:
The Sunman Park Board will be applying for a grant from the
Ripley County Community Foundation. The grant will be for playground
equipment, grills and fencing. The Intent to Apply Form must
be in by August 1.
Ortman Drilling and Water Services will clean two municipal
wells at a cost of $17,438. Cretex Products will seal 12 manholes
for $3,872.
Final adoption on the parking ordinance passed. It will allow
one-way angled parking on East Washington.
The town will sponsor the fireworks display for the Sunman
Fall Festival. The cost is $2,000.
All three board members attended the meeting: Wayne Jenner,
John Campbell and Mike Wolff. Also present to advise the board
were Attorney Jack Kellerman and Clerk-Treasurer Kris Schneider.
The next meeting of the Sunman Town Board will be August 19,
at 6:30 p.m. at the new Sunman Town Hall.
