Batesville bank has scare

Quick thinking on the part of neighbors possibly foiled a bank robbery last Tuesday, August 10, at the MainSource Bank in Batesville. According to information from Lt. Stan Holt, a detective for the Batesville Police Department, they are investigating what may have been an attempted bank robbery.

At about 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, police received a call from a resident in Quail Meadows Subdivision. Police say the caller reported a suspicious vehicle backed into a driveway in the subdivision.

Two men who were dressed in all black winter clothing with a bandana over their faces got out of the vehicle, which was described as a mid 90's Silver Cadillac Seville, and walked behind the home where they were parked and then in the direction of MainSource Bank.

An observant employee at a nearby business called police saying there were suspicious men behind their office building.

Police responded immediately to MainSource Bank where they received information from bank employees that there had been a suspicious female inside the bank at around the same time the men were observed outside. It was reported that the female was acting very suspicious and asked to use the bank's restroom. Officers say they believe the female was "casing the bank."

The trio is described as one male in his 40's with reddish blond balding hair, approximately 6' tall, weighing 220 pounds. The only description for the second male is someone who is approximately 6' tall, about 220 pounds. The female suspect is possibly in her 20's with shoulder length blond hair, thin build, about 5 feet tall.

The three were able to evade police by exiting the subdivision onto Six Pine Ranch Road.

Officers from the Batesville Police Department commended the excellent work of the people who reported the incident. "They did exactly what they were supposed to do. They foiled a bank robbery plan and may have prevented someone from getting hurt or killed."

Police ask that citizens become involved exactly as they did in this situation. Anyone with information concerning the suspects is urged to call the Batesville Police Department at 812-934-3131.
