Boy Scouts and their leaders in Osgood's Boy Scout Troop 638 dedicated their new building with a special program and ribbon cutting ceremony at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 21.

Bill Borchelt, institutional representative for the Osgood American Legion Post 267, sponsoring group for Troop 638, served as emcee and introduced ten speakers from the community.

Scout Master Phillip Abrams with the help of Scouts Brock Shadday and Kyle Abrams presided at the ribbon cutting for the new Scout Building that is part of a community building in the Ripley County Park.

After an invocation by Pastor Gary Groth, remarks came from Paul Hardy, representing the American Legion; Bill Neal, representing the Ripley County Park Board; Scout Master Abrams; Tom Trent, Cub Scout leader; Mike Black, president of the Reynolds Foundation; and Steve Gloyd, executive director of the Reynolds Foundation.

Black asked the audience to think of Gilmore and Golda Reynolds when they think of the Reynolds Foundation - two Osgood citizens who wanted the best for their community

Jac-Cen-Del Superintendent Bill Narwold, an Eagle Scout himself, spoke briefly commending the community and the Scouts for the new building where young men can grow to become leaders. Assistant Scout Master Gary Payne also spoke in appreciation of the work that had gone into the building.

Attorney John Schuerman of the Schuerman Law Firm presented the Boy Scouts with a check for $300 for painting the fence in front of his office on the Versailles Town Square. He also mentioned other projects he has for them later in the year.

Since Ripley County Commissioners had voted $30,000 to match Reynolds Foundation monies, repre
sentatives from both the county commissioners and the county council were present for the ribbon cutting. Chuck Folz represented the commissioners and President Donald Dunbar, the council.

During the ceremony, Scout Master Abrams presented a certificate of appreciation to Bill Borchelt for his 32 years as the local Boy Scout institutional representative. Borchelt also introduced Sherry Shadday, institu
tional representative from the Napoleon Lutheran Church for Cub Scout Troop 640.

In addition to the Boy Scout meeting room and kitchen, the newly built community building contains space for the trustees food pantry, storage and a shop area for the park, and storage areas for the Osgood Kiwanis and the Osgood Beautification Committee.

Parents of the Boy Scouts served refreshments to those in attendance and invited all to the Court of Honor and special dinner to follow.

The audience also included members of the Ripley County Park Board and Executive Director Darla Westerfeld, members of the Reynolds Foundation Board of Directors, and representatives of the Osgood American Legion.
