Fire destroys Osgood home

Osgood volunteer firefighters were called to
a fire at Fairview Village on Fairground Road around 7:00 a.m.
Saturday, February 26.
Upon arrival, the mobile home at Lot #2 was fully engulfed
in flames. Occupants of the home, Tom Hurst and Beverly Chambers,
had made it out safety, but their cat died in the fire.
"I saw smoke rolling out of the trailer," noted
neighbor Nichol Colyer. She then ran to her brother-in-law's
home nearby to call for help.
Firemen were concerned about the proximity of neighboring
mobile homes and the reality that the fire could spread quickly.
They were on the scene over two hours.
Dan Mulford, spokesman for the OVFD, said the fire broke out
when one of the occupants was burning some plastic type items
in a fireplace. He further noted that the inside of the home
was completely destroyed and most likely most of the contents.
Both Hurst and Chambers said they were glad to have escaped,
but have lost everything in the morning fire. They had plans
to stay Saturday night with her parents in Madison. Those wanting
to help this family may do so by calling them at 812-273-4319.
