According to information from the Ripley County Prosecutor's Office, a Batesville man has been arrested and charged with child molesting.

William R. Cole, 52, of 128 Second Street, Batesville, was arrested recently by Indiana State Police investigators. Prosecutor Ric Hertel has filed two counts of Child Molesting, Class C felonies after meeting with Trooper Tom Baxter and Trooper David Ellis.

Prosecutor Hertel noted that two separate charges have been filed "after it was determined that a small child had been molested by the suspect at two different residences in Ripley County."

According to the prosecutor, the victim underwent a physical examination and evaluation at the Mayerson Clinic at Children's Hospital in Cincinnati. "This area is very fortunate to have the Mayerson Clinic available to assist and evaluate these small victims. Their cooperation and expertise in these matters are greatly appreciated," Hertel stated.

Cole presently is awaiting trial on an unrelated case. Batesville Police arrested him for Possession of Cocaine and other drugs within 1,000 feet of school property in September of 2004. The suspect posted a $10,000 bond on that matter. A $75,000 bond has been set in the current investigation.

According to Sheriff Bill Davison, Cole was still incarcerated at the Ripley County Jail as of Monday, February 28.
