Lipperd invited to participate in Top 40 Workout at Ben Davis High School

Josh Barnett - Sports Editor

After an outstanding season with the Lady Raiders, South Ripley senior Julie Lipperd received one more reward, being selected to the Tip 40 Workout. Lipperd's outstanding senior season, as well as great career, helped land her a chance to participate in the Hoosier Basketball Magazine's Top 40 Workout at Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis on Sunday, March 13.

Lipperd helped lead her team to an outstanding 18-4 record this past season and was among the leaders in the conference in scoring, rebounding and field goal percentage.

Statistical evaluation, game observation and statewide research were conducted all season long throughout the state tournament to determine Hoosier Basketball Magazine's Top 40. In addition, all voting coaches of the Indiana Coaches of Girls' Sports Association Coaches' Poll were contacted for recommendations and nominations.

Two sessions of the Top 40 Workout will be hosted by Hoosier Basketball Magazine in conjunction with the IHSAA and IBCA on Sunday, March 13 at Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis. Twenty girls of the Top 40, primarily from northern and southern Indiana, will participate in the first session (1:00 pm-3:00 pm). The remaining 20 girls of the Top 40, primarily from central Indiana, will compete during the second session (3:30 pm-5:30 pm). Ten alternates will also participate in drills and scrimmages,
five in each session. Of the Top 40, 12 will be selected to make up the Indiana All-Star Team, which will play in All-Star games against other states including against Kentucky.

The sessions are open to the public for an admission charge of $5.00.

Julie will be participating in the second session of the day with
a chance to showcase her skill and hopefully be selected to the Indiana All-Star Team.

After graduation Lipperd will be attending Eastern Illinois University on a full basketball scholarship where she will continue her career with the Panthers.

She is the daughter of Ernie and Amy Lipperd of Versailles and Theresa Lipperd of Vevay.

Local players and coaches named to HBCA District III All-Star Team

Josh Barnett - Sports Editor

Three local basketball players and two coaches were recently named to the HBCA (Hoosier Basketball Coaches Association) All-Star District III Team. The players are South Ripley's Julie Lipperd and Erin Collier and Jac-Cen-Del's Adam Peetz. SR's girls coach Bill Snyder and JCD's boys coach David Bradshaw were voted as the District III Coaches of the Year and will be coaching the District III All-Star Team in a game at Paoli.

The District III team is made up of players from South Ripley, Jac-Cen-Del, Hauser, North Decatur, Columbus East, Jennings County, Indian Creek, Rushville, Brown County, East Central, Connersville, South Dearborn and Franklin County. The All-Star game will be played at Paoli High
School on April 10 with the District III team taking on the District IV team at 2:00 pm for the girls and 6:00 pm for the boys.

The games will basically follow normal IHSAA rules with a few exceptions. Each player will be allowed six fouls instead of the regular five. In the girls' game the teams may play a zone defense with no first half pressing. In the second half the teams are allowed to press.

In the boys' game the teams may play man-to-man with no first half pressing. Pressing is allowed in the second half. The first overtime will be 3:00 long and if there is a second overtime they will revert to sudden death, a team must win by two points.

Congratulations to the players and coaches for being named to this distinguished team and good luck in the All-Star Game.
