Sunman Board gives nod to rezone

The 80 acres located off Highway 101 behind Franks Industries within the Sunman Industrial Area will be rezoned Industrial 1 (Closed Industrial). The property is owned by John and Lillie Hiltenbeitel. The request was sent to the Sunman Town Board with a favorable recommendation by the Ripley County Area Planning Commission. The Sunman Town Board accepted their recommendation.

The display on the 1905 fire in Sunman at the museum was successful with 61 people attending the exhibit over a two-day period. Progress
is slowly being made on the museum. The teller cages have been removed and carpet has been ordered. A few display cases are in place. The museum is located in the lower level of the Sunman Town Hall.

The Town will be the fiscal agent for the Sunman Chamber of
Commerce and the Sunman Beautification Committee as they apply for a grant with the Ripley County Community Foundation.

The yellow curbing at 127 W. Washington will be removed. This will allow for the creation of two additional parking spaces.

Resolution 1-2005 was rescinded which stated there was not a cap on the original abatement for Seasongood Industries. Attorney Jack Kellerman reported the state wants the town to hold a public meeting on the matter. The meeting is set for May 19.

Tri-State Liquid has been contacted about doing the sewer line videos. The town has applied to the Indiana Department of Transportation for their "concrete" program to repair curbing on Highway 101. The Town will make all sidewalk ends handicap accessible at the same time.

Marshal Mark Denny can purchase a refurbished Panasonic laptop computer for $1,395.00. Council advised he apply for a small projects grant from the Ripley County Community Foundation for part of the cost. New tires for the police car will be purchased on a state bid. The cost, including balancing and mounting will be $90.00 a tire.

Roger Lang would like council to revisit the idea of starting a sewer district. Board member Mike Wolff volunteered to investigate what steps need to be taken.

All three board members attended the April 20, meeting: Wayne Jenner, John Campbell and Mike Wolff. Also present to advise the board were Town Attorney Jack Kellerman and Clerk-Treasurer Kris Schneider. The next meeting of the Sunman Town Board will be May 19 at 6:30 p.m. at the new Sunman Town Hall.
