SR varsity baseball defeats Milan to take first place

South Ripley Raiders defeated the Milan Indians 5-3 Monday night to take a one game lead in the ORVC conference. Both teams were 4-1 in the conference going into the contest.

Cory Yeomans went the distance for the Raiders striking out 5 Indians. The Indians scored 2 in the top of the first to take an early lead. South Ripley retaliated with one in the bottom half on a double by Michael Fear and a single by Tyler Ester. The Raiders scored 2 more in the second on a walk to Yeomans, an RBI double by Israel Burkett and an RBI single by Jacob Lemon to take a 3-2 lead.

The score stayed the same until the sixth when Lemon singled and Brandon Seabolt homered to left making the score 5-2 Raiders. Milan plated one run in the seventh to make the final score 5-3 Raiders.

The Raiders reserve team was defeated by the Indians 8-4 in the second game of the night.

Eagles place second in three-way track meet against conference rivals

The boys' and girls' varsity track teams both placed second in a three-way meet between Milan and Shawe Memorial on April 21 at Jac-Cen-Del.

For the girls, Tiffany Richards placed third in discus and Paige Thomas placed fourth in shot put, and also third in long jump and high jump.

Deidre Hellmich was fourth in high hurdles and Kayla Bradley placed fourth in low hurdles. Abby Benoit placed fourth in the 100 meter dash and Jodi Hardy was also fourth in the 200 meter dash.

Kelly Wager was first in the 400 and Amber Lunsford was first in the 800. Alisha Lord was first in both the mile and two mile. The JCD 400 and
3200 relay teams both placed first while the 1600 meter relay team placed second.

The boys also placed second. Tucker Brown was first and second in discus and shot put respectively. Daniel Leonetti was first in long jump and Cory Horn was third in high jump. Donald Chadwell placed fourth in the high hurdles. Eric Gloyd was third and second in the 100 and 200 meter dash and Kyle Horan was second in both the half mile and mile. Justin Eaton came in first in the two mile. The JCD 400 meter relay team was third and their 1600 meter relay team was second while their 3200 meter relay team left everyone in the dust, placing first.
