Chelsa D. Simon
Chelsa D. Simon, 27, of Osgood, passed away Saturday, May 28, 2005 near New Marion
as the result of an accident. She was born at Batesville, March 26, 1978, the
daughter of Jim and Cindy Ahrens Simon and they survive.
Other survivors include one son, Dalton Simon at home; paternal grandparents,
Don and Ola Simon of Osgood; maternal grandparents, Mervin and Margie Ahrens
of Batesville; brothers, Dustin, Shane, and Kane Simon all of Osgood.
Ms. Simon was a member of the Adams Lutheran Church and a 1997 graduate of Jac-Cen-Del
High School. She worked as a receptionist for the Manderley Health Care Center
in Osgood. Funeral services will be held today, Thursday, June 2 at 10 a.m. at
the Adams Lutheran Church near Batesville with Pastor William Powlen officiating.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the Dalton Simon Fund in care of the funeral home.

Luella Margaret Belew
Luella Margaret Belew, 96, formerly of Milan, died Friday, May 27, 2005 at the
Silver Bell Nursing Home, Versailles. She was born May 25, 1909 in Lawrenceburg,
the daughter Christian and Anna Marie Wolfarth Zimmer. She married Truman Belew
on December 29, 1929 at St. John Lutheran Church Parsonage, Hubbell's Corner
and he preceded her in death on October 4, 1994.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Melvin and Noel Belew of Rising
Sun, Leroy and Lorrie Belew of Covington, Kentucky; three grandchildren; seven
great grandchildren; four step grandchildren and four step great grandchildren.
Also surviving are brothers, Elmer Zimmer of Lawrenceburg and Clarence Zimmer
of Cambridge. She was preceded in death by her husband; sister, Clara Borgman
and brothers, Omar and Edward Zimmer.
Mrs. Belew was a homemaker and a lifetime member of the St. John Lutheran Church,
Hubbell's Corner.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 31 at St. John Lutheran Church, Hubbell's
Corner with Pastor Peg Dorwick officiating. Burial was in the Evangelical Union
Cemetery.

Union Cemetery Association.

Wilma R. Wagner
Wilma R. Wagner, 87, of Madison, passed away Friday, May 27, 2005 at the Waters
of Clifty Falls at Madison. She was born near Holton, on October 28, 1917,
the daughter of John J. and Cordia Sporleder Harrell. She was married to Clarence
(Dick) Wagner on April 25, 1942, and he preceded her in death on March 19,
1984.
She is survived by three daughters, Valeria Thomas and husband, Jim of Madison,
Sandra Ley of Indianapolis, and Denise Wertenberger and husband Jeff of Huntington;
grandchildren, Stephen Ley, Christine Ley Gibson, Blythe Thomas Couch, Blake
Thomas, Eric and Lindsay Wertenberger; great grandchildren Christopher and Joshua
Ley; sisters, Hilda Aldrich and Leona Bennett both of Indianapolis.
Mrs. Wagner was preceded in death by her parents, one grandson, Brandon L. Thomas;
brothers, Irwin, Wilbur, Wilfred and Clayton Harrell and her sisters, Zelma and
Mary Harrell and Mona Whitaker.
Mrs. Wagner was a 1936 graduate of New Marion High School and was a homemaker.
She was a member of the North Madison Christian Church.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 1 at 11 a.m. at the North Madison
Christian Church with Bob Hicks officiating. Burial was in the St. Magdalene
Cemetery at Madison.
Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or the North Madison Christian

Thelma N. (Lanham) Smith
Thelma N. (Lanham) Smith, 82, of Cross Plains, died Thursday, May 26, 2005 at
Good Samaritan Hospital, Cincinnati. She was born October 11, 1922 in Jefferson
County, the daughter of Charles W. Lanham and Clara Wilson. She married Harold
E. Smith and he preceded her in death on December 15, 1993.
Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Hankins and husband, Bill of Cross Plains,
Levada Bladen and husband, Paul of Vevay; six grandchildren; seven great grandchildren;
one nephew, Kenneth Lanham and two nieces, Anna Belle Smith and Freda Luke.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Connie Kirkpatrick Imel; son-in-law,
John Kirkpatrick; one sister, Alta Hallgarth; one brother, Ora Lanham and two
great grandchildren.
Mrs. Smith was a homemaker. Funeral services were held Sunday, May 29, at Vail-Holt
Funeral Home, Madison Chapel with Pastor Ron Lee. Burial was in the Salem Cemetery,
Cross Plains.

Dorothy Jean Straber
Dorothy Jean Straber, 85, died Friday, May 20, 2005 at her Indianapolis residence.
She was born in Versailles on February 7, 1920, the daughter of Porter and
Grace (Allen) Harper. She married Wallace W. Straber on July 3, 1939 in Madison
and he preceded her in death on July 20, 1997.
Survivors include two daughters, Rita Joan Cothron of Indianapolis, Nancy Rhea
Fields of Mooresville; two sons, Richard Alan Straber of Lafayette, David Lee
Straber of Indianapolis; one sister, Ruth Peters of Ft. Lauderdale, Fl., 14 grandchildren
and 26 great grandchildren. Three brothers and four sisters preceded her in death.
Mrs. Straber worked for St. Francis Hospital in Beech Grove for 14 years as a
x-ray transcriber having retired in 1985. She had previously worked for Eli Lilly & Co
for 10 years in production department. She was a member of the Indian Creek Christian
Church, the Faith, Hope & Love Women's Group; Willing Workers Sunday school
class and was a volunteer worker for Vista Care.
Services were conducted May 24 at 10 a.m. at the Indian Creek Christian Church.
A graveside service was held on Tuesday, 2 p.m. at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery
in Napoleon.
Memorials may be made to the church.
Everta Speyerer
Everta Speyerer, 91, of Lawrenceburg, passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2005 at
the Dillsboro Manor. She was born in Cincinnati on October 5, 1913, the daughter
of Everett and Jennifer Revere Dean. She was married to Norman Speyerer and
he preceded her in death in 1981.
She is survived by one daughter, Sandra Curtis and husband Danny of Dillsboro;
grandchildren, Kenny, Toby, and Carl Riley, Danielle Moman and Shannon Curtis;
one sister, Ilene Devanny of Cincinnati.
Mrs. Speyerer was a retired bookkeeper.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 21 at 10 a.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter
Funeral Home, Versailles with Rev. Roger Dean officiating. Burial was in the
Arlington Memorial Garden in Cincinnati.

Fred A. Beach
Fred A. Beach, 55, of Milan, died Wednesday, May 18, 2005 at his residence. He
was born November 16, 1949 in Warsaw, Kentucky, the son of Frederick J. and
Betty Ruth (Kittle) Beach. He married Geraldine Marie Maybrier on February
7, 1975 and she survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Shawn Beach of Milan, Fred Allen Beach Jr.
of Milan; one brother, Timothy Wayne Beach of Milan; one sister, Diana Pettit
of Martinsville and four grandchildren. One son, Ryan Beach preceded him in death.
Mr. Beach was a member of the Eagles Lodge at Aurora. He was a former employee
of DMI at Milan.
No services were held.

Kathleen M. Kenney
Kathleen M. Kenney, 87, of Cincinnati, died Saturday, May 21, 2005 in Cincinnati.
She was born July 12, 1917 in Adams County, Indiana, the daughter of James
and Bridget (Moran) Kenney.
Survivors include several nephews and nieces.
Ms. Kenney was a graduate of the University of Cincinnati and taught school in
Cincinnati most of her life. She was a member of the Assumption Parish Catholic
Church in Cincinnati.
Funeral mass was held Tuesday, May 24, 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church
in Geneva with Fr. J. Bosco Perera officiating. Burial was in the St. Mary's
Cemetery.

Lula Cole Sturgeon
Lula Cole Sturgeon, 96, of Foxpointe Drive, died Wednesday, May 18, 2005 at Keepsake
Village of Columbus.
She was born August 4, 1908 in Versailles, the daughter of William A. and Florence
May Gilliland Cole.
Survivors include one son, Harold Sturgeon of Osgood; one daughter, Karen Schmeltz
of Columbus; nine grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Howard Sturgeon; brothers
Frank and Lawrence Cole and sisters, Vesta Wilkening and Sylvia Smith.
Mrs. Sturgeon was a former sales clerk at Sears in Cincinnati and also worked
in childcare. She was a member of the St. Peter's Lutheran Church and Bartholomew
County Senior Center.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 21 at Barkes, Inlow & Weaver Funeral
Home with Rev. Paul Haugen officaiting. Burial was in the Grandview Memorial
Gardens, Madison.

Mary M. Buchanan
Mary M. Buchanan, 85, of Belleville, Michigan, formerly of Benham, passed away
Sunday, May 15, 2005, at the Oakwood Memorial Hospital in Dearborn, Michigan.
She was born at Canton, North Carolina on October 14, 1919, the daughter of
Jesse and Ada Edwards Johnson. She was married to Emmett Buchanan on April
20, 1946 and he preceded her in death on March 17, 1989.
She is survived by one son, David Buchanan and wife Ernestine and one daughter
Linda (Susie) Gabrys and husband Joseph, all of Belleville; three grandsons,
Jacob Reeder, Nathan Gagrys and Joseph Gabrys, Jr,; three sisters, Lora Buchanan
of Alabama, Edith Hamilton of Baltimore and Opal Sprouse of Ashville,NC.
Mrs. Buchanan was a member of the Belleville Church of God and also of the Versailles
Order of the Eastern Star. She was a retired nursing assistant having retired
from Outer Drive Hospital in Lincoln Park, MI.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 23, at 11 a.m. at the Benham United Methodist
Church. Burial was in the Benham Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the Southeastern Indiana Alzheimer's Support Group
in care of the funeral home.
Verland S. King
Verland S. King, 84, of Versailles, formerly of Osgood, passed away Wednesday,
May 18, 2005 at his residence. He was born at Osgood on September 28, 1920,
the son of Edgar Steadman and Pearl Pruiett King. He was married to Ilene Meadows
on October 21, 1948 and she survives.
Other survivors include sister-in-law, Mrs. Evelyn King of Osgood.
Mr. King was a 1940 graduate of Osgood High School. He was a member of the New
Testament Christian Church in Osgood.
Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family with burial in
the Greendale Cemetery in Osgood.

George John Gruenloh
George John Gruenloh, 90, of Batesville, died Tuesday, May 17, 2005 at Hospitality
Hall, Batesville. He was born August 11, 1914 in Covington, Kentucky the son
of George and Margaret (Thiel) Gruenloh, both deceased. He married Virginia
Reiss in Cincinnati on February 20, 1943 and she survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Tina (Jim) Noonan of Fischers, Donna (Steve)
Macke of Batesville and three grandchildren, Kaitlynn and Tyler Macke and Andrew
Noonan. Five sisters preceded him in death.
Mr. Gruenloh attended the Batesville United Methodist Church. He was a retired
electrical engineer and later managed the Gibson Theater in Batesville. He was
a US army veteran of WWII and Korea.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 21, at 10 a.m. at Meyers Funeral Home,
Batesville with Rev. Larry Marhanka officiating. Burial was in the Batesville
United Methodist Cemetery with military graveside rites.
Memorials may be made to the Batesville Rescue 10 or Riley's Children's Foundation.
Huberta Shelton
Huberta "Burt" Shelton, died Wednesday, March 30, 2005 at Helena,
Montana.
She was born August 17, 1938 in Milan, the daughter of Denzil and Anna (Schauer)
Shelton.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 27 at the Riverview
Cemetery in Aurora. Internment will follow the memorial service.

Arnold Ray Moody
Arnold Ray Moody, 69, of Batesville, died Thursday, May 12, 2005 at Methodist
Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born October 12, 1935 in Batesville the son
of Lee and Lucy (Phipps) Moody.
Survivors include two brothers, Dale Moody of New Point, Edward Moody of Shelbyville;
two sisters, Doreen Williams of Richmond and Linda Johnson of Batesville and
several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Moody was retired from Ford Motor Company in Connersville. He was a US Army
veteran between the Korea and Vietnam conflicts. He was a member of the Batesville
United Methodist Church.
Funeral services were held Sunday, May 15, at 4 p.m. at Meyers Funeral Home,
Batesville with John Cooper officiating. Burial was in the Batesville United
Methodist Cemetery.
Arnold L. Chasteen
Arnold L. Chasteen, 71, of Dillsboro, died Sunday, May 15, 2005 at his residence.
He was born January 30, 1934 in Rock Castle County, Kentucky the son of Ernest
and Viola Gadd Chasteen, both deceased. He married Clara Ann (Niemeyer) Chasteen
on April 2, 1954 and she survives.
Other survivors include one son, Arnold Chasteen of Day Ridge, Kentucky; two
daughters, Kathy Lagaly Hann of Sunman, Vickey Meyer of Bromley, Kentucky; one
brother, Lowell Chasteen of Newport, Kentucky; one sister, Maxine Maines of Ft.
Thomas, Kentucky; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Mr. Chasteen was a retired machinist with the Ford Motor Company.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 17 at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home, Milan
from 5-9 p.m. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, May 18, 2 p.m. fast
time at the Chasteen Gadd Cemetery, at Mt. Vernon, Kentucky.
Denise Kay Hall
Denise Kay Hall, 43, of Sunman, died Saturday, May 14,
2005. She was born December 27, 1961 in Batesville, the
daughter of Dale and Arlene (Richter) Ellinghausen,
and they survive. She married Joe Hall and he survives.
Other survivors include Danny (Amy) Ellinghausen of Sunman, Dennis Ellinghausen
of Sunman, Dinah (Ron) Hoffmeir of Yorkville and Dawn (Greg) Lewis of Milan
and three grandchildren.
Mrs. Hall was a secretary/owner of Halls Construction in Sunman and a member
of the W. Harrison Pentecostal Church.

Pentecostal Church. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 18 at 10 a.m.

Lisa A. Courtaney
Lisa A. Courtaney, 43, of West Lafayette, died Sunday, May 15, 2005 at University
Hospital, Indianapolis. She was born September 4, 1961 in Lafayette.
Survivors include her parents, Gene and Phyllis Courtaney of West Lafayette;
four sisters, Teri Bledermann and husband Michael, Carol Lichtwardt and husband
Brian, both of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Diane Miller and husband James of
Tulsa, OK and Joan Kendall and husband Tom of Mesa, AZ and one brother, Brad
Courtaney and wife Shannon of Valparaiso.
Ms. Courtaney graduated from Harrison High School, attended Purdue University
and received her Associate Degree from Ivy Tech. She had worked at Purdue University
for over 15 years, most recently for the Hospitality and Tourism Management Department.
She was a member of the First Christian Church in Lafayette.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 18, at the First Christian Church,
10 a.m. with Dr. James Miller officiating. Graveside services will be held at
the Tanglewood Cemetery near Versailles on Wednesday, May 18 at 4 p.m.
Madeline B. Lauber
Madeline B. Lauber, 94, of the Hopewell community passed away Sunday, May 15,
2005 at the Jennings St. Vincent Hospital in North Vernon. She was born at
Allen's Crossing near Osgood on April 6, 1912, the daughter of John and Hazel
Sheets Daugherty. She was married to Dennis Lauber and he preceded her in death
in 1988.
Survivors include one son, Denver Lauber and wife Betty of the Hopewell community;
six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and four great great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents, her son Merline
Lauber, her sister Sylvestine Howard, and her brothers, Howard and Robert Daugherty.
Mrs. Lauber was a 1929 graduate of Holton High School and was a 75-year member
of the Hopewell Baptist Church. She was a homemaker and farmed with her husband.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 19 at 11 a.m. at the Hopewell Baptist
Church with Rev. David Shivers officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday, May 18 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter

Olga Ellis, 90, of Sunman, died Wednesday, May 11, 2005 at the Waters of Batesville.
She was born October 31, 1914 in Camden, NJ, the daughter of Wasil and Felicia
Urban Kolody, both deceased. She married Joseph E. Ellis on May 1, 1937 and
he survives.
Other survivors include one son, Joseph A. Ellis, Jr. and wife Joyce of Hamilton,
NJ; one granddaughter Deanna Bookholdt and husband Mark of Hamilton, NJ; one
great grandson, Justin Bookholdt; two sisters, Helen Romach of Collingswood,
NJ, Alice Niemeyer of Glassboro, NJ; two brothers, Anthony Kolody of Oaklyn,
NJ, Peter Kolody of Langhorne, PA, and special friends Paula and Joe Reed of
Sunman.
Mrs. Ellis along with her husband served as missionaries to Africa for over 24
years. She was a member of the Sunman Bible Church.

Samuel Robert Rhodehamel, 16, died Wednesday, May 11, 2005 at King's Daughters'
Hospital, Madison. He was born March 8, 1989 in Madison, the son of Leigh Ann
Rhodelhamel Roberts and she survives.
Other survivors include two sisters, Megan Rhodehamel of Madison, Amea Clark
and husband John of Madison and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and other
relatives.
Samuel was a ninth grade student at Madison Consolidated High School. He attended
to Rivervalley Community Church and the Good Samaritan Ministries.

Home, Madison with Pastor Terry Glasgow officiating. Burial was in the Vevay
Cemetery.

Ted" Roberts
Theodore Ted Roberts, 94, of Sunman, died Friday, May 13, 2005 at the Waters
of Batesville. He was born March 23, 1911 in Lawrenceville, the son of Charles
and Mary Wolforth Roberts. He married Ruby A. Gutapfel on September 21, 1940
in Klemmes Corner and she survives.
Other survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Roger Lang of
Sunman; three grandchildren; one sister, Delores Sterwerf of Mt. Healthy, Ohio;
and two brothers, Wilbur Roberts of Batesville and John Roberts of Ross, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by four sisters and one brother.
Mr. Roberts was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church and a 59-year member
of Kenneth L. Diver Post #337, American Legion, Sunman. He was a retired employee
of the Big Four Railroad. He was also an Army veteran of WWII.
Visitation will be held today, Tuesday, May 17, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the St.
John Lutheran Church, Hubbells Corner. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m.
at the church with Pastor Gary Groth officiating. Burial will be in the St. John
Cemetery with military graveside honors by the Kenneth L. Diver post #337 American
Legion.

Walter F. Renfro
Walter F. Renfro, 89, of Holton, passed away Friday, May 13, 2005 at King's Daughters'
Hospital, Madison. He was born August 5, 1915, the son of Fred and Rosa Buchanan
Renfro. He was married to Mayme Sizemore on December 9, 1937 and she survives.
Others survivors include two sons, Walter Jr. and wife Linda of Holton, Fred
and wife Patty of Rexville; three daughters, Myrtle Moberly and husband, Earl
of Holton, Donna Hamilton and husband David of Rexville, Joyce Scott and husband,
Keith of New Marion, eleven grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren and
one sister, Zelpha Naylor of Holton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Bertha and Laura Renfro
and one brother, Daily Renfro.
Mr. Renfro was a retired farmer and has owned and operated Renfro Farm Implements
in Holton for several years. He was a 1933 graduate of Holton High School and
was a lifelong Christian. Mr. and Mrs. Renfro enjoyed fishing and had spent several
winters in St. Cloud, Florida. Mr. Renfro was a member of the Otter Creek Baptist
Church.
Funeral services will be held today, Tuesday, May 17 at 1 p.m. at the Holton
United Methodist Church in Holton with Brother Dale Day and Brother Randy Thieman
officiating. Burial will be in the Holton Cemetery.

Linda Lathery
Linda Lathery, 56, of Brookville, died Wednesday, May 4, 2005 at Reid Memorial
Hospital in Richmond. She was born November 13, 1948 in Batesville the daughter
of Hubert and Martha Sparks Singleton.
Survivors include her mother, Martha Singleton of Connersville; three sisters,
Kathy Gillespie of Connersville, Jackie Hall of Glenwood, Judy Torrick of Waymart,
PA; and one brother, James Singleton of Sunman. She was preceded in death by
her father and one brother, Charles Singleton.
Ms. Lathery was a 30 year employee of Sperry-Rice Mfg. Company in Brookville.
She was also a member of the Valley Christian Church in Brookville.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 7, 1 p.m. at Cook Funeral Home in Brookville.
Burial was in the Drewersburg Cemetery. Memorials may go to the Valley Christian

Anna Buffington
Anna Buffington, 83, of Versailles, passed away Friday, May 6, 2005 at her residence.
She was born at Arma, Kansas on November 21, 1921 the daughter of Alex and
Rose Marando Grimaldi.
She is survived by two sons Steve Buffington (owner of Steve's Bike Shop) of
Versailles and Fred Buffington of Carson City, Nevada; five grandchildren; one
great-grandson; and one brother, Frank Grimaldi of Kansas City, Missouri. She
was preceded in death by one son, Ed Buffington and one brother, Alex Grimaldi
Jr.
Ms. Buffington graduated college from Pittsburgh, Kansas. She was a retired school
teacher from Princeton School District in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Funeral services will be held today, Tuesday, May 10 at 11:00 a.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter
Funeral Home in Versailles with Father Darvin Winters officiating.

(Bright) Robinson
Iva Lea "Callie" (Bright) Robinson, 68, of Hanover,
died Saturday, May 7, 2005 at Thornton Terrace in Hanover.
She was born July 9, 1936 in Loudon,
TN the daughter of William E. Bright and Edith Susan Oody Bright, both deceased.
Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Burkman and husband Michael of Scipio,
Edith "Edie" Fugate and husband Michael of Vevay; three sons, Daniel "Danny" Robinson
and wife Tanya of Mainville, OH, Walter J. Robinson of New Caney, TX, Loyd Robinson
of Vevay; her stepmother, Betty Bright of Lebanon, OH; three brothers, Leon Bright
and wife Phyllis of Sabina, OH, Billy Frisch of Lebanon, OH, Robbie Bright of
Lebanon, OH; fifteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces,
nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by one granddaughter,
Christina Ryker; one grandson, Bradley Robinson; one brother, Rodney Bright;
and one sister, Louise Bay.
Mrs. Robinson was employed at the Rising Sun Chair Factory and later at the U.S.
Shoe Corporation in Vevay and Osgood. She was also a member of the Cross Plains
Church of Christ.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 11, 5-7 p.m. at Morgan-Webster-Nay Funeral
Home in Madison and Thursday, May 12, 12 noon until time of services at the Cross
Plains Church of Christ.
Funeral services will follow visitation at the church on Thursday at 1 p.m. with
Bro. Logan Fugate officiating.
Burial will be in the Salem Cemetery in Cross Plains. Memorials may go to the
Iva Robinson Memorial Fund.
Carol J. Dickey
Carol J. Dickey, 76, of Batesville, died Wednesday, May 4, 2005 in Batesville.
She was born October 13, 1928 in Batesville the daughter of Irvin G. and Augusta
J. (Kaiser) Schein, both deceased. She married Ronald Dickey, Sr. on January
6, 1945 and he survives.
Other survivors include her children, Janice Koeneman of Grand Rapids, MI, Dale
Dickey of Batesville, Bill Dickey of Loveland, OH, Cindy Linville of Batesville,
Dan Dickey of Batesville, Amy Lauber of Osgood, Deb Rozales of Indianapolis,
Kerry Dickey of Batesville, Kim Hastings of Indianapolis, Carron Elser of Cincinnati,
OH, Ronald L. Dickey, Jr. of Batesville, Michele Eich of Crystal Lake, IL, Andrea
Wade of Cincinnati, OH; one brother, William Schein; twenty-four grandchildren;
and seven great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Dickey retired from the Rosspoint Truck Stop. She also worked in the mailroom
at Hillenbrand Industries and was a cook for Hillcrest Country Club and Dryerhaus
Nursing Home. She was a member of the Batesville United Methodist Church, was
the past president of the Ripley County Republican Women's Club, was the Ripley
County Republican Woman of the Year in 1999, was the Batesville Order of Eastern
Star past Worthy Matron and was also the VFW Legislative Coordinator.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 7, 10:30 a.m. at Batesville United Methodist
Church with Rev. Larry Marhanka officiating.
Burial was in the St. John Cemetery (Huntersville) in Batesville. Memorials may
go to Rescue 10 or the Batesville United Methodist Church.
Meyers Funeral Home, Batesville, was in charge of the arrangements.
Esther Busch Dean
Esther Busch Dean, 89, of Cincinnati, passed away Monday, May 9, 2005 at the
Ripley Crossing in Milan. She was born at Cincinnati on March 1, 1916, the
daughter of Henry and Mary Niehouse Busch. She was married to Frank Cooper
who preceded her in death and was later married to Stanley Dean who also preceded
her in death.
Survivors include one brother, Walter Busch and wife Annabelle of Osgood; one
sister, Mrs. Ethel Stegemoller of Versailles; six nieces and nephews and nine
great nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Dean was a 1934 graduate of Osgood High School and was a secretary for Standard
Oil.
Graveside services will be held Friday, May 13 at 11 a.m. at the Rest Haven Cemetery
in Cincinnati. Visitation will be Thursday, May 12 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the
Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home, Versailles.
Memorials may be given to the Jac-Cen-Del High School Scholarship Fund in care

Freida Kyle
Freida Kyle, 71, of Aurora, died Friday, April 29, 2005 at Good Samaritan Hospital
in Cincinnati, OH. She was born October 16, 1933 in Wolfe County, KY the daughter
of Thrasher Shull and Stella Amburgey, both deceased. She married John R. Kyle
and he survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Warren E. Kyle of Aurora, John W. Kyle of Jacksonville,
FL; two daughters, Gretta S. Christensen of Los Alamos, NM, Ava K. Reece of Charleston,
SC; one brother, L.T. Shull of Florida; three sisters, Mildred Elam of Ft. Wayne,
Martha Pearson of Knoxville, TN, Wanda F. Koch of Jacksonville, FL; and thirteen
grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond and Clem Shull.
Mrs. Kyle was a homemaker. She was also the past president of the Dearborn County
Extension Homemakers.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 4, 5-8 p.m. EDT at Filter Funeral Home
in Aurora.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 5, 11 a.m. EDT at Community Fellowship
Church in Aurora.
Burial will be in the Wrights Corner Cemetery in Aurora. Memorials may go to

Irene M. Salatin
Irene M. Salatin, 98, of Sunman, died Tuesday, April 26, 2005 at Hospitality
Hall in Batesville. She was born January 28, 1907 in Blue Creek the daughter
of Frank and Katherine Probst Huber, both deceased. She married Clarence Salatin
and he preceded her in death on June 30, 1977.
Survivors include one daughter, Roberta Strewing of Batesville; two sons, Robert
Salatin of Batesville, Darrell Salatin of Sunman; eleven grandchildren; and twenty-three
great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one daughter-in-law, Pat Salatin;
one son-in-law, Dick Strewing; one sister, Marian Jones; and one brother, Alfred
Huber.
Mrs. Salatin was a homemaker. She was also a member of the Sunman Community Church.
Funeral services were held Friday, April 29, 1 p.m. at Cook Funeral Home in Sunman
with Pastor Dan Steffen officiating.
Burial was in the St. Jacob Cemetery in Blue Creek. Memorials may go to the Piano
Fund at Hospitality Hall in Batesville.
Mary N. Annis
Mary N. Annis, 75, of Rescue, CA, died Monday, April 18, 2005 at her residence.
She was born December 23, 1929 in Grafton, West Virginia, the daughter of Bill
and Olive Moats. She was married to Bill Annis, formerly of Osgood, on August
22, 1962.
Survivors include her husband of 42 years, Bill; one son, Brian and wife Jayne
of Sacramento, CA; one sister, Catherine LeDonne (Frank) of Lexington, Virginia;
two brothers, Vincent Moats (Jean) and Kenneth Moats (Barbara) of Fresno, California;
two grandchildren and many cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives. She
was preceded in death by her mother in 1967 and her father in 1989.
Mrs. Annis was a 1947 graduate of Grafton High School and a 1951 graduate of
Fairmont State University. She was an elementary school teacher.
Funeral services were held Friday, April 22, at the Fair Oaks Presbyterian Church.
Burial was in the United States National Cemetery in Dixon, California.
Ralph W. Shelton, Jr.
Ralph W. Shelton, Jr., 77, of Carrollton, KY, formerly of Versailles, passed
away Saturday, April 30, 2005 at the Wesleyan Hall in Cincinnati. He was born
in Jennings County on November 21, 1927 the son of Ralph W. and Ada Beech Shelton.
He was married to Wanda DeBurger on June 11, 1952 and she preceded him in death
on September 4, 2001.
His survivors include two sons, Randy Shelton of Erlanger, KY, Ricky Shelton
of Carrollton, KY; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two sisters,
Janice Houston of Cincinnati and Gloria Jim of Cincinnati. He was preceded in
death by one sister, Betty Ruth Parin.
Mr. Shelton retired from Uniroyal Tire Company and was a veteran of WWII. He
was also a member of the VFW in Carrollton, Kentucky.
Funeral services will be held today, Tuesday, May 3 at 2 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter
Funeral Home in Versailles with Ronnie Harman officiating.
Visitation will be from 12 p.m. until time of services.
Burial will be in the Shelby Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted
by the Versailles American Legion.

Raymond Merida
Raymond Merida, 52, of Milan, died Friday, April 29, 2005 at Christ Hospital
in Cincinnati, OH. He was born June 11, 1952 in Knox County, KY the son of
Ike and Monita (Jordan) Merida. He married Janice Marie Pruss on July 2, 1972
and she survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Ray (Kelly) Merida of Manchester, Daniel Ray
Merida at home; three brothers, Ike Merida, Jr. of Moores Hill, Wayne Merida
of Greensburg, Ronnie Merida of Milan; and four sisters, Shirley Branstutter
of Batesville, Barbara Broughton of Cincinnati, Patricia Bischoff of Batesville
and Drucilla Miller of Napoleon.
Mr. Merida was an employee of Campbell-Hausfeld in Harrison, Ohio. He was also
a member of the Chesterville Freewill Baptist Church in Moores Hill.
Funeral services will be held today, Tuesday, May 3, 11 a.m. (slow time) at Sibbett-Moore
Funeral Home in Moores Hill with Rev. Charles McKinnley officiating.
Burial will be in the Mud Pike Cemetery in Osgood. Memorials may go to the family.
Travis Wayne Jackson
Travis Wayne Jackson, 10 days, of Dillsboro, died Wednesday, April 27, 2005 at
Children's Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati, OH. He was born Sunday, April
17, 2005 in Cincinnati the son of Randy Dale Jackson and Deborah K. Peters
Jackson and they survive in Dillsboro.
Other survivors include one brother, Trevor Dale Jackson at home; paternal grandmother,
Betty Ballard of Dillsboro; and maternal grandparents, Bill and Esther Peters
of Madison. He was preceded in death by paternal grandfather, Melvin Jackson.
Funeral services were held Sunday, May 1, 3 p.m. at Ulrich Filter Funeral Home
in Dillsboro. Memorials may go to the Randy Jackson family.
William H. Westerman
William H. Westerman, 81, of Sunman, died Saturday, April 30, 2005 at Methodist
Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born August 8, 1923 in Lookout the son of
Henry and Lulu (Rheinhardt) Westerman, both deceased. He married Loretta Gillman
at St. Peters Church on May 10, 1947 and she preceded him in death on January
10, 1990. He then married Margie Denny on July 6, 1991 at St. Jacob's United
Church of Christ and she survives.
Other survivors include three sons, William C. Westerman of Sunman, Dennis Westerman
of Brookville, Melvin Westerman of Sunman; two daughters, Mary E. Knopfle of
Cross Creek, FL, Doris Andre of Sunman; one step-daughter, Kathy Gaynor of Dover;
two step-sons, Bruce Denni of Batesville, Matthew Denni of Washington; one brother,
Henry Westerman of Batesville; two sisters, Luella Meyer and Leona Davis both
of Batesville; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and six step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
Mr. Westerman retired from Seagrams in Lawrenceburg in 1985. He was a medic in
the U.S. Army during WWII and was a member of the St. Leon American Legion and
the VFW in Batesville. He also attended St. John United Church of Christ in Penntown.
Visitation will be held today, Tuesday, May 3, 4-8 p.m. at Meyers Funeral Home
in Batesville and also 9:30-10 a.m. at St. John United Church of Christ in Penntown
on Wednesday, May 4.
Funeral services will follow visitation on Wednesday, May 4 at 10 a.m. at the
church with Pastor Craig Amlin officiating.
Burial will be in the St. Peter Church Cemetery with military graveside rites.
Memorials may go to the Sunman Rescue 20 or St. Peter Church Cemetery.
William L. Knowlton
William L. Knowlton, 92, of Milan, died Friday, April 29, 2005 at Ross Manor
in Dillsboro. He was born July 12, 1912 in Milan the son of Myron Hardy and
Flora Coffee Knowlton, both deceased. He married Alverta Redding on October
7, 1942 and she survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Keith Allen (Josie) Knowlton of Valdosa, FL,
Kenneth Wm. Knowlton (Gail) of Milan; one brother, Floyd Knowlton of Walnut Grove,
CA; one sister, Mildred Butte of Pierceville; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Kevin Wayne and one sister, Ruth Cole.
Mr. Knowlton retired in 1974 from Schenley Distillers after 36 years of service.
He was a member of the Moores Hill Methodist Church and the Distillers Workers
Union. He was a WWII Army veteran and a recipient of a Purple Heart. He was also
a life member of the Moores Hill Legion Post and the Disabled Veterans.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 2 at Sibbett-Moore Funeral Home in Moores
Hill with Rev. Carl Martin of the Moores Hill Methodist Church officiating. Military
services were held by the Moores Hill American Legion.
Memorials may go to the People Helping People through American Electric Power.
