Funeral services set for former newspaper employee

Katherine Hoffman Burton, 60, of Cross Plains, passed away Monday, June 20, 2005, at her residence. She was born September 1, 1944, at Cross Plains, the daughter of Harold Melton Sr. and Emma Mae Cooper Melton. She was married to George Burton, on June 12, 2004, and he survives.

Other survivors include a daughter Tracy Hoffman Wood and husband Robert of Cross Plains; a son William "Bill" Hoffman and wife Shauna of Cross Plains; five grandchildren, Erika and B.J. Wood; Billy, Jenna and Regan Hoffman; a sister, Marie Jolly of Versailles; nieces and nephews, Billy and Jeff Melton, Debra Lynn Woodfield, Pamela Bressert, Brenda Vaughn, and Mark McClure.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Harold Melton Jr. and Lee Allen Melton and a nephew, Michael Lee Melton.

Mrs. Hoffman was a delegate for the Republican State Convention, and Precinct Committeeman for Brown Township. She was a member of the Cross Plains Church of Christ.

She worked at Ripley Publishing Company as the advertising manager from 1985 until 2004, when she retired. Previously she was employed at the Dearborn County Hospital and King's Daughters' Hospital as a nurses aide.

Visitation will be held tonight, June 23, from 4-7 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home, Versailles. Funeral Services will be held Friday, June 24, at 10:30 a.m. at the Cross Plains Church of Christ with Logan Fugate and Randy Thieman officiating. Burial will be in the Salem Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the family or the Salem Cemetery.
