Osgood baby makes speedy entry, born at Milan BP Station

In a big hurry to enter this world, Isiaih Allan Thomas, was born on June 22, in the parking lot of the BP Station at Milan in the family's Chevy Blazer. It was the sterile environment most doctors believe is necessary, but it provided shelter.

"I wasn't due until the 29th," began his mother, Renee Fryer, 21, of Osgood, "but, I had been having pains all day and had actually gone to my doctor earlier that day."

Fryer said the doctor told her to go home, wait it out and that's what she did. "I guess I waited too long, but I even told my friends I didn't want to have him in the hospital," she noted from her Osgood home.

Saying she played cards with a friend, Stephanie Mangold, most of the day, finally the pains were too much and she was persuaded to head for the Dearborn County Hospital about 11:00 p.m. that night.

Driving down the road, Fryer said she knew she couldn't make it and told her mother, "We're not gonna' make it, you'd better call an ambulance." Her mother, Samantha (Sam) Fryer, immediately pulled into the parking lot of the BP Station at Milan, and used a pay phone to make the 911 call.

"Officer Skaggs showed up out of no where," noted Fryer, saying the EMS squad came and paramedics, who actually delivered her baby at exactly midnight. "Scott Huffman was the paramedic," she noted. The rescue squad transported her and baby on to Dearborn County Hospital.

"My mom thinks I should have named him Blaze, because he was born in the Blazer," laughed Fryer. She said his grandma plans to call him "Little Blaze."

Fryer was thankful for Milan's Officer Gary Skaggs, and the paramedics who gave such efficient care. She is definitely a fan of the paramedic service in this county and says she and Isiaih are both doing fine.
