Excitement is in the air as the news of the Taste of Home Cooking School is getting out! Staff at Ripley Publishing Company are gearing up for a great time this fall when home economist Margaret McCutcheon will present "On the Road With Taste of Home Cooking School" September 29.

Not only will cooks come away with new recipes and gifts, they will learn the key to successful cooking with the proper tools.
Remember the television program "Tool Time"? Tim would always want to use a tool with more power, which would lead to a comical, but often disastrous escapade. His levelheaded assistant, Al, would admonish him to use the right tool for the right job. That advise is as true for your kitchen and food preparation area as it is for the workshop.

There are so many kitchen gadgets on the market and an array of cookware and bakeware from which to choose. It's hard to know what's needed for a basic kitchen set up, especially for the novice cook. With the holiday season approaching, it's a good time for a refresher on fundamental kitchen equipment.

Come to the Taste of Home Cooking School at the South Ripley Elementary School Gymnasium on September 29, and join home economist, Margaret McCutcheon to learn bout some of the essential cooking tooks of the trade. "I know people are interested in time-saving equipment for food preparation," explains Ms. McCutcheon. "I have been fortunate to be able to try many different utensils and cookware in my profession. Without a doubt a good set of knives are the most valuable tools in my kitchen," continues McCutcheon. "Knives that are dull or poorly made are an invitation for accidents. You want to purcahse high quality forged steel knives with blades that extend the full length of the handle for balance and durability. For starters, I would recommend a 6-inch utility knife and a paring knife. You may also want to include a serrated knife and a chef's (butcher) knife to your initial set."

"Margaret will identify other essential kitchen equipment during her presentation," assures Linda Chandler from Ripley Publishing Company, the host of this popular event. "This amazing one night cooking event will also take you on a scent-sational journey across the country with tantalizing aromas of regional fare and hearty homemade meals."

Everyone who attends will receive a free copy of the Taste of Home Cooking School Brand Name Cookbook, which includes the recipes McCutcheon will prepare on stage. The full-colored cookbooks will be tucked in gift bags that contain valuable national food company coupons and product brochures along with promotional items from local retailers. A terrific selection of door prizes from national and local sponsors will be given away as well as the completed feature recipes.

Chandler is excited about hosting "On The Road With Taste of Home Cooking School." Discover which cooking tools are essential for your kitchen. Watch McCutcheon prepare 11 regional recipes you will want to add to your cooking repertoire.

Come to learn, laugh and celebrate good cooking! And, maybe win a special door prize or completed featured dish. Watch for details in the coming weeks. Ticket sales will be announced.
