Acting upon the recommendation of Principal Connie
Nobbe, the Milan Community School Corporation Board of Trustees
approved the appointment of Marty Layden as Milan Middle School's
assistant principal and athletic director.
Formerly Milan High School athletic director and football
coach, Layden will relinquish those duties to move to his new
position. High School Principal Michael Parks and Assistant
Principal Jon Custer will share the responsibilities of athletic
director for the high school.
"We have reduced the administrative staff by one," explained
Superintendent Donald Swisher. "We are working toward
spending wisely, but in the best interest of the students and
community."
In other personnel matters, President David Voss, Vice President
Charles Rohlfing, Secretary Stephanie Baker, and members Edward
Amberger and Anita Pitts approved the rehiring of Judy White
as a special education teacher at the middle school. This position
will be funded by ROD, according to Super
intendent Swisher.
With the enrollment numbers in kindergarten meriting an additional
half-time teacher, the board was also able to rehire Angie
Volz as a half-time extended day kindergarten teacher. Her
position will be funded by Title I, the superintendent explained.
"This is a happy meeting compared to our April meeting," said
Voss as he welcomed both White and Volz as returning teachers.
Also named to fill vacant positions were Melinda McMullen,
who will be drill team instructor, and Ginny Shannon, who becomes
head cook at the elementary school.
Andrew Jackson, director of student services, announced that
the new school bus has arrived and all school buses will be
inspected on Thursday, July 21, in the high school parking
lot.
Superintendent Swisher received permission to advertise the
bus that is being replaced and also to advertise any position
that may become available before the August school board meeting.
Advertising dates for the budget will be August 23, 25, 30,
and September 1. The budget hearing will take place at 7:00
p.m. on September 6 and the budget adoption on Septem
ber 19.
The superintendent also announced the Fall ISBA Conference
dates as September 26-27 in Indianapolis.
Under patron/staff concerns, Principal Michael Parks introduced
Daniel Fleming, who was present, and congratulated both Daniel
and Nathan Hampton for the excellent way they represented Milan
High School and the community at Hoosier Boys State this summer.
Monday's meeting adjourned at 7:30 p.m.
