JCD finishes first in CC Inv.

The Jac-Cen-Del Varsity Boys Team, with a score of 74, took first place in the 11 school JCD Varsity Co-ed Cross Country Invitational on Saturday Sept. 11, edging out the second place, Southwestern(Hanover), by one point.

The other nine schools that participated were: Rising Sun third with 99; Brownstown fourth with 99; Switzerland County fifth with 109; Milan sixth with 112; South Ripley seventh with 131; Shawe Memorial eighth with 199; South Decatur ninth with 231; Southwestern(Shelby) tenth with 245, and 11th to Lawrenceburg with 276.

The field consisted of 73 runners representing the 11 schools in the boys side of the event. Browns-town's John Smith and Mark Crossman with times of 16:24 and 16:29 won the first and second place honors. In third, Southwestern(H), Derek Clark in 16:40, followed by fourth Adam Baylor of Milan with the time of 16:49. Jac-Cen-Del's Justin Eaton claimed the fifth spot at 16:52, and Justin Druba of Southwestern(H) in 17:06 took sixth. In seventh place, Kyle Horan of JCD at 17:12, and eighth place to Jay Druba of Southwestern(H) in a time of 17:14. Ninth was Norman Roark of Milan with the time of 17:24, and tenth to Switzerland County's Josh Snow, with the time of 17:24 also.

Spots 11 to 15 were Erik Demaree of South Ripley - 17:30; Justin Craig of Rising Sun - 17:31; Kenny Leville of Shawe - 17:32; Blake Sutton of JCD - 17:33, and Nathan Hampton of Milan at 17:41. The boys finish times for the race were from 16:24 to 22:43.

Ten schools entered runners in the girls event which fielded 55. Kassie Kovert of Brownstown crossed the finish line first in a time of 15:34, second was Caitlin Sauerhage of Rising Sun in 15:42, and Amanda Hon of Switzerland County with 15:52 for third. The fourth and fifth place to Southwestern(H) via Kati Burch and Whitney Hamilton with times of 15:55 and 16:27. Caitlin Bowman of Rising Sun in 16:41 finished sixth; seventh was Sally Bell of Southwestern(Sh) at 17:20, and in for eighth, Rising Sun runner Missi Menke with the time of 17:40. Leanne Kirby of Southwestern(Sh) in a time of 17:47 finished ninth, and tenth place to Cassie Baker of Brownstown in 17:51.

Finishers 11 to 15 were: Vandebur of South Decatur - 17:53; Haley Gray of Southwestern(H) - 17:54; M. Berry of South Ripley - 18:06; Alisha Lord of JCD - 18:09, and Danielle Clemens of Milan with a time of 18:12.

Girls team scores found Southwestern(H) winning first place with 47 points, followed by Rising Sun in second with 55. The third place was to Brownstown at 74, fourth place to JCD with a 110, and fifth to Switzerland County with the count of 112. Southwestern(Sh) finished sixth in the team totals with 143; South Ripley at 150 for seventh, and eighth to Lawrenceburg with a score of 185. Milan competed with only four runners and were n/s for team scoring.
