In a contest between
South Ripley and Batesville Varsity
Volleyball Teams, the game scores
of Batesville 25-21, 25-14, and
25-17 would allow the Bulldogs
to take a three game to none victory
in a best three of five match.
In a battle played
less than a week ago at the Ripley
County Varsity Girls Volleyball
Championship games at Jac-Cen-Del,
Saturday, Sept. 10, the South Ripley
Lady Raiders and the Batesville
Lady Bulldogs squared off for the
county title, Batesville being
victorious.
South Ripleys
Elementary School gym would be
the site for the re-match, on Thurs.
Sept. 15.
Intensity levels
were high to get the evening off
as the teams warmed up before the
game with dancing, cheering and
loud music playing in the background.
As game time approached referees,
team coaches Jett and Prickel,
and team captains for the game,
all seniors from the two schools
met at the court side to hear the
pregame rules, etc. from the officials.
SRES Principal,
Mark Collier, announced the teams,
the anthem was sang, and the game
started.
GAME ONE
South Ripley
served first, but Batesville would
capitalize taking the first point
of the contest. Ties at one, two,
and three before Raiders took the
lead on a Huss serve and a Webster
kill, 4-3.
With Huss serving,
the Raiders were able to take the
advantage to an eight to four count,
before giving up serve. The Raider
advantage would grow to an eight
point edge at 20 - 12, but things
would not hold up for them.
At the score of
21-14, Batesville called time-out.
The following Raider serve point
was taken by Batesville, and Bulldog
senior, Carrie Giltz toed the serve
line and would not relent until
the score of 21 - 20, when a Raider
time-out was taken. Following the
timeout, Giltz continued, tie at
21, Batesville lead of 22-21, 23-21,
another SR timeout. Giltz again
served following the timeout, 24-21,
and finished it off with point
25, giving Bulldogs the first game
victory. Giltz served for ten straight
points to unravel and upset the
Raider earlier lead.
GAME
TWO
Much as in game
one, ties at one, two, three, four,
and five, until at 6-5, the Bulldogs
went on a 5 point run taking the
score to 10-5. Raider Braley spiked
the ball on the Bulldogs side of
the net, the score 10-6. The game
progressed to a score of 19-11
when Raider Webster got the kill
for a 19-12 count. Again, as in
the first game, #6 for the Lady
Bulldogs, Carrie Giltz would come
to serve and take control serving
her team to the score of 24-13
before turning the serve opportunity
back to the Lady Raiders. The Raiders
could only gain one more point
before the Lady Bulldogs finished
them off with the 25th point to
win the game at 25-14. Bulldogs
lead, two games to none in a best
of five match.
GAME
THREE
The third game; now a desperate win for the Lady Raiders, as
another loss will take them out
of the contest and close the book
on another defeat by the Bulldogs.
With ties at one
and two, Batesville took the lead
and would not falter. Bulldog,
Kendall Summers served for 5 straight
points taking their lead to seven
points at 11 to 4.
The Raider effort
would only get them to within four
points of the Bulldogs at the score
of 17-13, before the Lady Bulldogs
would close the door on Raider
opportunities for the evening with
a final score and third game of
the match victory by the score
of 25-17. |
