Gary Franklin - Sports Writer

Tuesday, September 27, South Ripley hosted a meet which included runners from the Oldenburg Academy, Jac-Cen-Del, and South Ripley High schools.

In a field of 20 runners for the girls event, Oldenburg Academy girls took the first and second spots with Erin Koch and Jill Kuntz. The third spot was captured by Melanie Berry of South Ripley. Jac-Cen-Del ladies finished in fourth and fifth with Alisha Lord and Amber Lunsford followed in sixth by Raider runner Jessilyn DeWitt.

Oldenburg runners laid claim to the seventh, eighth and ninth spots with Amanda Hornbach, Hillary Connersman, and Erin Gish. The tenth place finish for the race was by Kaitlin Wagner of JCD.

The girls times ranged from 17:31 to 29:07 with the top ten finishers coming in under the 20 minute mark.

Time range for the boys event was 17:47 to 25:39.

Jac-Cen-Del runners raced to the finish line to claim first and second place followed by two South Ripley runners for third and fourth. Fifth and sixth place were to JCD runners Blake Sutton at 19:20, and Andrew Wagner at 19:24. Seventh and eighth were to South Ripley's Ryan Kohlmeier -19:30 and Jared Keck -19:48. Finishing for ninth and tenth place were Oldenburg Academy's Jordan Kuntz - 19:52 and Alex Sidderding at 19:57.

In a field of 27 runners in the boys segment of the meet, the 20 minute mark was the split time between the top ten finishers, and the rest of the runners as it was with the girls event.

The Lady Raiders have several speedy players, one of which is #4 Melinda Berry. Watching her in action on the soccer field reminds me of a humming bird, or a bumble bee - before you can see her stop, she is already headed another direction.

The Lady Raiders have 9 seniors on their Girls Soccer team and they will play their last home game Oct. 4 against Madison. The Lady Raider senior members include: Bethany Vaughn, Brittany Boles, Courtney Fancher, Danielle Davis, Flavia Cameiro, Kelsey Steinhauer, Sarah Bauman, Shaina Keck, and Steph Miller.

The team scores for the girls event were: Oldenburg 1st place with 27 points, Jac-Cen-Del 2nd with 42 points, and South Ripley's scored 54 points for a 3rd place finish.

The boys team scores were: Jac-Cen-Del 25 points for 1st place, South Ripley 2nd with 34 points, and 3rd place to Oldenburg with 73 points.
