Eagle/Knight-Scramble

Gary Franklin - Sports Writer

The Jac-Cen-Del Co-ed Varsity Soccer team squared off against South Dearborn in sectional play at East Central High School, Wednesday, October 12, losing in overtime by a score of 2-1, after scoring the only goal in the first half of play.

Early on in the contest, SD drove and missed a field goal attempt that hit on top of the goal. From that point on the Eagles seemed to find more desire as they out hustled and out manuevered them offensively and defensively for the remainder of the first half period. With 2:08 left on the game clock in the first half, #8 Andrew Wagner was able to kick the ball up past the SD keeper and take the lead at 1-0.

The Eagles were able to keep SD from scoring in the second half until 19:00 remained. SD tied the score at 1-1. Neither team in attempt after attempt were able to put the needed point on the board to win in regulation play. The game was knotted at 1-1 as time expired, requiring two 7:00 minute periods, then a kick off to break the tie if needed.

SD scored at 3:41 in the first overtime period and held JCD for a 2-1 lead. In the second 7:00 overtime period, JCD could not get a goal to tie, but held SD from scoring any more. With 11.3 seconds remaining on the game clock, an injury to an SD player allowed the time to expire preventing any last second shot by the Eagles.
