SR framed pictures to be sold at carnival
Wanda English Burnett - Editor
A unanimous vote by the South Ripley School Board
of Trustees gave Superintendent Ted Ahaus the go ahead to auction
old framed sectional pictures at a silent auction during the
school carnival set for this Friday, October 28. New pictures
have been reprinted and can be seen at the high school. It
was noted that proceeds from the auction will benefit the South
Ripley Athletic Department.
Several personnel items were on the agenda at the regular
meeting of the board held October 17. They include:
· The resignation of Lloyd Strohl effective December
23, 2005. Strohl was approved for a leave of absence pursuant
to an agreement from August 26, until December 23, 2005.
· Todd Crabill was approved as a substitute teacher
for the absence of Strohl. Since Crabill does not hold a teaching
license, he will be paid 15 days as a substitute and then paid
at the beginning daily rate of a teacher. He will receive no
benefits. The motion made by Robert Garcia, and seconded by
Keith Mathews, carried with a unanimous vote. The decision
will be reevaluated prior to the end of the first semester.
· Leah Hafer was approved to substitute teach in the
absence of Sarah Dennis, who will be off on maternity leave
from November 7, 2005, until February 10, 2006. Hafer will
be paid 15 days as a substitute and then the daily rate of
a beginning teacher since she doesn't hold a teaching license.
No benefits will be provided.
· Superintendent Ahaus recommended approval to expand
the hours of the previously posted special education aide position
from 3.5 hours per day/four days a week to 4.5 hours per day/five
days a week. This was due to an additional special education
student attending South Ripley. It was noted that placement
of this student is being contested by the parent. The recommendation
for additional hours/days is contingent upon the new student
remaining in the classroom.
· Liconda Stutler was recommended to be hired as special
education aide for Mrs. Dunker's class.
· Sharon Martin was granted an FMLA leave from September
13 until October 10, 2005.
· An FMLA request from Diana Smith was retroactive
from October 10, 2005, to continue until she is released by
her doctor.
· Molli Walker received unanimous approval to extend
her leave of absence from December 21, 2005, until the end
of the second semester of the 2005-2006 school year.
· Sam Durham was approved as Boys Varsity Track Coach
for the 2005-2006 school year.
· An FMLA request from Dixie Franklin from October
25, 2005, until December 8, 2005, was approved.
In other business: Annette Sieverding was congratulated as
the 2005-2006 DAR Good Citizen for South Ripley High School.
She was presented a certificate of recognition, pen set, and
a
Raider sticker from Board President
Jim Miller.
Mrs. Perry and Mrs. Hafft were granted a trip request to attend
the National Council of English Teachers in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
from November 17-21. Registration fees of $385 will be paid
by the school, with the teachers covering the remaining costs.
It was approved that the South Ripley Music Department could
sell musical instruments that are no longer being used. The
proceeds will benefit the music department.
The regular meeting of the South Ripley School Board of Trustees
will be held November 28, instead of November 21.
The Administration Office will be closed from noon on October
19 through Friday, October 21 for carpet installation.
An impact aide distribution was received on September 29 in
the amount of $12,246, according to Lana Miller, business manager.
Present at the meeting were board members: Chris Bradford,
Robert Garcia, Keith Mathews, Randy McIntosh, Jim Miller, Ralph
Miller; Superintendent Ted Ahaus and School Attorney Merritt
Alcorn. Jim Samples was absent.
