VVFD responds to fourth structure fire of the year

Members of the Versailles Volunteer Fire Department responded to a fire at 12:23 a.m. Monday morning, February 6, at the home of Eric Sechrest at 420 Clearview Lane, Versailles.

Sechrest, his wife, and three children made it out to safety after they were alerted by working smoke detectors in the house.

Chuck Gunter, fire investigator for the Versailles Department noted that there was heavy fire damage in the living room and heat and smoke damage throughout the house. He estimated the damage at between $60- $70,000.

Rescue 69, PSI, and Versailles Waterworks responded to the scene along with the Versailles Fire Department. This was the department's fourth structure fire of the new year.

They responded to a house fire at the home of Duane Benham at 6572 S. Benham Rd. on Friday, February 3. The estimated damage was between $70-$80,000, according to Gunter.

Friendship Volunteer Fire Department responded to the fire along with Rescue 69 and Southeastern Indiana REMC.

Gunter noted that the fire probably started from a burner that was left on on a kitchen range.
