Lady Eagles fill the skies dashing Shiners' light

Gary Franklin - Sports Writer

A flock of Lady Eagles homed in on the Rising Sun Lady Shiners eliminating them from the 2006 1A girls' basketball sectional #58 competition by a score of 71-35.

The Lady Eagle momentum has propelled them forward toward this final goal of a run to the top and game one now lays behind them. The sectional site being at Jac-Cen-Del no doubt is an asset to the team, but a 16-3 overall regular season record has proven them tough wherever the competition site may be.

Coach Scott Smith has shown patience, intensity and pride with his '06 Lady Eagle team, and the gamut of highs and lows have produced quality and the possibility of a scoring run by many different ladies at any given time, giving their team a true 'team' effect.

The Lady Eagles will compete in the second game on Friday, February 10, continuing their sectional #58 play around 7:30 p.m. against the South Decatur Cougars. The opening contest that evening will pair the Oldenburg Academy Twisters and the Shawe Memorial Hilltoppers for a 6:00 p.m. start time.

Emily Einhaus led the Lady Eagles with a 21 point effort along with 10 rebounds. Abby Lauber added 11 points, to go with her 6 rebounds, 6 assists, and 5 steals. Alisha Lord and Erika Simon each also added 11 points in the contest for the Lady Eagles, with Simon acquiring 5 steals and Lord 6 boards.
