Versailles Council opens bids for water treatment
plant

The Versailles Town Council held its regular
monthly meeting on Thursday, February 9. In attendance were:
Sue Meisberger, president; James Taul, councilman; John Holzer,
councilman; Larry Eaton, attorney; David Adams, town marshal;
Kevin Hensley, superintendent; Ted Spurlock, clerk-treasurer;
and Mark Salyers, wastewater plant operator.
After calling the meeting to order, minutes of the January
meeting were read and approved.
Lori Young, an engineer with Curry Associates, opened the
bids for the water plant. Eight bids were opened. All had the
proper paperwork attached including a 10% bid bond, letter
from surety, bid form 96 and acknowledgment of addenda 1 & 2.
The lowest base bid, of $1,189,424, came from Mitchell & Stark
Construction. The highest base bid was received from Dave O'Mara
Contractor, Inc. at $1,423,200. Alternate bids A-1 for telemetry
ranged from $76,600-$88,000; A-2 for grating and handrails
from $18,602-$39,000; and A-3 for floor tile from $2,000-$9,000.
Young and Attorney Eaton will make their recommendation to
the council.
Plans for a park and additional ball park on land owned by
Von McGuire were discussed. Attorney Eaton suggested that a
committee be formed to create a parks/recreation plan. There
also was discussion regarding the need for new bleachers.
In new business Madonna Miller, of the Tri Kappa Sorority,
requested that the week of week of February 19-26 be officially
proclaimed Tri Kappa Week. The proclamation was approved by
the council and signed by President Sue Meisberger.
Marshal David Adams reported there were 16 cases for the month
of January, including one car theft. Adams' department also responded
with other local and state police departments to the Batesville
Casket Company for a drug raid. Marshal Adams stated that the
other departments were grateful for his department's assistance.
Superintendent
Kevin Hensley reported that five water sample testers have
been placed in various locations around Versailles.
Mark Salyers reported that a building at the sewer plant is
in need of a new roof.
