The last two Milan Indian wrestlers,
under the watchful eye and direction
of Coach Roy Adams, completed their
season on Friday, February 17,
at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis
as Indian State Title competitors.
Indian senior at 135# class Josh
Yatsko, and Indian junior at 152#
class Darren Hess wrestled where
each were defeated in the quarter
final round of the State Championship
Tournament series.
Prior to the young men and their
coaching staff's departure for
the championship bout in Indy,
Milan students and staff were assembled
in the gym to honor the pair with
a pep rally to send them off for
the match, later to be escorted
out of town on their way to Indy
by the Fire Department etc.
Yatsko, an 18 year old senior
named an Academic All-State Award
winner, has plans to attend Purdue
University, majoring in Pharmacy
following graduation. This season
Yatsko wrestled for the Indians
in the 135# weight class to a 42-5 record. Yatsko's first
2006 State Tournament quarter final
competition bout took place on
Friday night, February 17.
Brandon Cosgrove, representing
Hobart High School with a 40-1
season record coming into the match,
pinned Yatsko in the second round
of the three round match to advance
taking Yatsko out of State contention.
Yatsko is one of 8 yet in contention
for the 2006 Lily Scholarship Award.
Josh has carried a 4.0 average
through all 4 years of high school.
Darren Hess, a junior, entered
his match with a season record
of 43-3 wrestling in the 152# weight
class. Hess's first competitor
at the State Tournament meet on
Friday night was Seth Teiters,
representing the Bloomington South
High School.
Hess wrestled through all three
periods remaining unpinned, however,
his points scored for the bout
were fewer than his opponent taking
him out of State Title contention
in the quarter final round on Friday,
February 17.
