No charges to be filed in drug case

According to Ripley County Prosecutor Ric Hertel, there will be no formal charges filed against a Versailles man who was arrested on preliminary drug charges.

Eric Sechrest, 34, was taken into custody when he was found in possession of a controlled substance - Endoset - after a drug raid at the Batesville Casket Company on January 26. He was taken to the Ripley County Jail where he bonded out the next day.

According to officers involved in the arrest, Sechrest had the drugs in his possession and did not have them in the proper container from a pharmacy showing he was legally the person the prescription was written for.

The prosecutor noted that after further investigation, Sechrest produced a valid prescription, purchased from a valid pharmacy, written by a valid doctor.

The drug search was at the request of the Batesville Casket Company and involved K-9 units from six different agencies including Osgood, and Versailles towns. The Ripley County Sheriff's Department also responded to assist.

Prosecutor Hertel noted that people carrying prescription medications should always carry them in the prescribed bottles, showing who they were prescribed for, the doctor and pharmacy.
