August is projected start date for project
Family Dollar Store, Subway coming to Sunman
Cathy May - Contributing Writer
Randy Knueven is purchasing the empty lot on
Highway 101 in Sunman that currently belongs to Enhanced Telecommunications.
He told the Sunman Town Board he is planning to demolish two
buildings on the lot to make way for a Family Dollar Store
and a Subway Restaurant. He said although plans are subject
to change, he would like to start in August.
Knueven said the county wants an additional 25-feet right-of-way
on the state highway. Jack Kellerman questions the legality
of that since they have no jurisdiction on anything the state
has and no one from the county will produce an ordinance. Knueven
is willing to give up the 25' as long as he can go back to
the county for a variance. In addition to the project on Highway
101, Knueven plans to take down the house at 123 Eastern Avenue
and put up a small office building.
In other business: Wayne Baily of Commonwealth Engineers is
putting together a sewer district resolution to go before the
County Commissioners.
Clerk Treasurer Kris Schneider will meet with the Rising Sun
Regional Foundation to discuss the Sesquicentennial grant.
Roger Lang will also be present to discuss the grant application
for the proposed sewer district.
As the town's representative to the Ripley County Economic
Development Board, Kris Schneider asked Council to attend the
next meeting concerning the creation of a country wide industrial
park.
Utility Superintendent, Carl Bruns, reported the water meter
taken out of Wipples Tavern has been certified as accurate.
Their grease trap has been installed and they are in compliance.
Jody Webster and Troop 611 attended the Sunman Town Board
meeting to learn "Citizenship in our Community." Webster
asked if Council would help them purchase a small trailer.
Council suggested they apply for a small project grant from
the Ripley County Community Foundation. The town is willing
to act as their fiscal agent.
The town added $1,000 to their Quality of Life Fund with the
Ripley County Community Foundation.
All three board members attended
the meeting: Wayne Jenner, John Campbell and Mike Wolffe.
Also, present to advise the
board were Town Attorney Jack Kellerman and Clerk-Treasurer
Kris Schneider. The next regular meeting of the Sunman Town
Board will be March 6 at 6:30 p.m. at the Sunman Town Hall.
