Buddy G. Brown
Buddy G. Brown, 74, passed away Monday, February 20, 2006 at the Maple Ridge Health Care Center in Cartersville, GA.
He was born November 9, 1931 and worked for the B&O Railroad at the Milan Depot until he retired. Shortly after retirement, he and his wife Jessie moved to Adairsville, GA.
He is survived by wife Jessie; a brother Jack Brown; sons Earl and wife Karla Brown of Odenton, MD; Carl Brown of Friendship; Bill Brown of Milan; daughters Mary L. McCreary and husband Kevin of Milan; Barbara Smith and husband Charles, Jr; stepsons Clifford Beach in Texas; Donald Beach of Moores Hill; 14 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Bertha M. Weber
Bertha M. Weber, 98, of Napoleon, passed away Friday, February 24, 2006 at the Hospitality Hall in Batesville.
She was born at Greensburg on August 3, 1907 the daughter of Clifford and Georgia Ann Smith English. She was married to Clarence Weber on January 16, 1930 and he preceded her in death on October 28, 1977.
She was also preceded in death by her daughter Joan Redelman, her brothers John English and Tony English, and her sisters Josie Pool, May Crume, Stella English, Sarah Platt, and Mary English.
Mrs. Weber was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Napoleon. She had worked as a custodian at the Napoleon School and had also served as church custodian for 17 years.
Funeral services were held Monday, February 27 at St. John’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Gary Groth officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Charles Anthony Hyatt
Charles Anthony Hyatt, 91, of Osgood, passed away Sunday, February 26, 2006 at Manderley Health Care Center in Osgood. He was born March 4, 1914 in Ripley County to Alonzo and Inda Powell Hyatt, both deceased.
He is survived by niece Susan Tucker of Florida.
Mr. Hyatt was preceded in death by sisters Mable Hyatt and Ruth Oliver.
He worked at the Hyatt Chevrolet Dealership in Greensburg. Mr. Hyatt was a member of Greensburg Methodist Church.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 2 from 9-10:00 a.m. at the Manderley Health Care Center, Osgood. Funeral services will immediately follow at Manderley. Burial will be at South Park Cemetery in Greensburg.

Helen Borgman Peetz
Helen Borgman Peetz, 93, of Batesville passed away Thursday, February 23, 2006 at Margaret Mary Community Hospital, Batesville. She was born in Ripley County on April 21, 1912 the daughter of Frederich and Minnie Pieper Borgman, both deceased. She married Edward Peetz on August 18, 1937 and he preceded her in death on October 20, 1982.
Survivors include sons Carl of Osgood and Kenneth of Batesville; three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by brother Howard Borgman.
Mrs. Peetz was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Napoleon. She was a past member of Welca, the church choir of St. John’s and the Happy Hearts Home Ec Club.
Funeral services were Monday, February 27 at the St. John’s Lutheran Church, Napoleon. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the St. John’s Lutheran Church or the Napoleon Fire Department.

Carl W. Meyer
Carl William Meyer, 75, of Santa Clara, CA, formerly of Cross Plains died Tuesday, February 14, 2006.
He was a 1948 graduate of Cross Plains High School. He served in the armed forces in Hawaii where he met his wife Felisa Torres. They were married July 1952.
He is survived by his wife Felisa. Other survivors include son Mike; daughters Nita Meyer and Lisa Ziegler; and six grandchildren all of California; brother Robert Meyer of Aurora; sisters Edna Smith of Milan and Pauline Block of Aurora.
He was preceded in death by son Brian; his parents Willie C. and Amelia Meyer; brother Herman Meyer and sister Irma Klusman.
Memorial services were held February 18 in Santa Clara, CA.

James Michael Watkins
James Michael Watkins, 36, of Milan died Tuesday, February 21, 2006 at Dearborn County Hospital. He was born October 18, 1969 in Somerset, KY, the son of James and Judith Crockett Watkins and they survive. He married Shelly Watson on February 26, 1996 and she survives.
Other survivors include sons Randall of Milan and Michael of Somerset, KY; daughter Paige of Milan; stepmother Charlene Watkins of Cincinnati, OH; stepfather Marvin Smith of Somerset, KY; brothers James and Robert of Somerset, KY; Robert Wilson of Rising Sun; and William of Hidden Valley; sisters Rosa Ruehling of Pinellas Park, FL; Dreama Lach of Cincinnati, OH; Kimberly Humphress of Indianapolis; and Tonya Harper of Somerset, KY.
Mr. Watkins was employed at Eldridge Backhoe Service.
Funeral services were Saturday, February 25 at the South Sparta Community Church with Rev. Tom Holt officiating. Burial was at the South Sparta Community Cemetery.

Marie Mauk
Marie Mauk, 84, of Batesville, passed away Sunday, February 26, 2006 at Heritage House of Greensburg. She was born January 10, 1922 at McRoberts, KY, the daughter of William Harrison and Ollie Branham Saylers, both deceased. She married Winford Mauk, Sr. on January 27, 1947 in Whitesburg, KY, and he preceded her in death on August 24, 1991.
Survivors include sons Winford, Jr. of Greensburg; Jerry of Batesville and Kenneth of Plainfield; daughters Venora Walterman of Batesville and Donna Drockelman of Lookout; brother Henry Saylers of Louisville, KY; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, two sisters and one granddaughter.
Mrs. Mauk was a homemaker.
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 1 at 9-11:00 a.m. at the Batesville Assembly of God. Funeral services will be held at the church immediately following with Pastors Mike Pyle and Mike Cunnington officiating. Burial will be at the St. John Church Cemetery in Batesville.

Opal M. Mathews
Higginbotham
Opal M. Mathews Higginbotham, 85, passed away Friday, February 24, 2006 at The Waters at Clifty Falls, Madison. She was born March 25, 1920 in Ghent, KY, the daughter of Charles and Olive Shaw Poling, both deceased. She married Virgil Higginbotham and he survives.
Survivors also include son Charles Mathews and wife Dottie of Orlando; daughter Betty L. Ritchie and husband Jim of Madison; stepdaughter Jamie Bowers and husband Charles of Middlebury, FL; eight grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by sisters Mary Leahigh and Mildred Sedam Williams.
Mrs. Higginbotham was a former resident of Cross Plains where she and Virginia Minch owned and operated the Clover Farm General Store. She worked as an attendant at Madison State Hospital until moving to Florida in 1961. Mrs. Higginbotham worked at Memorial Hospital in Auburndale, FL, until retiring and returning to Madison in 1995. She was a member of Cross Plains United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be held today, Tuesday, February 28 at 11:00 a.m. at the Vail-Holt Funeral Home Madison Chapel with Rev. Jerry Wheeler officiating. Burial will be at the Pleasant Cemetery.

Rosemary C. “Rosie” Dierckman
Rosemary C. “Rosie” Dierckman, 76, of Batesville, passed away Saturday, February 25, 2006 at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, OH. She was born April 26, 1929 at Brookville, the daughter of Lambert and Alma Humig Doll, both deceased. She married Elmer Dierckman on August 12, 1950 at St. Anthony’s Church in Morris and he survives.
Survivors also include sons Roger of Dublin, OH; Dennis of Katy, TX; Steve of Buford, GA; Bill of Noblesville and Bob of Sunman; daughters Lola Fisher, Linda Dierckman, Barb Kruthaupt, Melanie Dierckman and Lisa Dierckman all of Batesville; brothers Floyd and Alois Doll of Morris; sisters Anne Mae Erhardt of Morris and Shirley Doll of Indianapolis; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Dierckman was a cook at St. Louis School for 21 years. She was a member of St. Louis Church, the Daughters of Isabella and the St. Louis Ladies Society.
A prayer service will be held today, Tuesday, February 28 at 6:45 p.m. by the Daughters of Isabella. A rosary service will follow at 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 1 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Louis Church with Rev. Daniel Mahan and Rev. Bill Farris, O.F.M. officiating. Burial will be in the St. Louis Cemetery.

Vyrell Dwight Greene
Vyrell Dwight Greene, 84, of Madison, passed away Saturday, February 25, 2006 at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, KY. He was born July 29, 1921 at Cross Plains, the son of Fred Blackwell and Cora Demaree Greene, both deceased. He married Wilma Menchhofer on September 26, 1952 at Tanglewood Church in Versailles and she survives.
Survivors also include sons Ricky of Des Moines, IA; and Jeffrey of Charlestown; daughters Freda Jo Kegley of New Point; and Mindy Lea Barbe of Enterprise, AL; sister Glenna Vanosdol of Shelbyville; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one grandchild and one great-grandchild.
Mr. Greene was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII. He worked for Southeastern REMC for 37 years, retiring in 1982. He was a lifetime member of Benham Church and attended Tanglewood Church. Mr. Greene was a member of the Versailles American Legion, 50-year member of the Osgood Masonic Lodge. He was a past 20-year member of the Osgood Fire Department and past board member of Ripley County Extension.
Mr. Greene will lie in state at the Tanglewood Church in Versailles today, Tuesday, February 28 from 9:00-11:00 a.m. Funeral services will follow at the church. Burial will be at the New Benham Cemetery in Versailles.

Harvey James Tharp
Harvey James Tharp, 61, of Dillsboro, died Friday, Thursday, February 16, 2006 at Dearborn County Hospital, Lawrenceburg. He was born March 4, 1944 in Cincinnati, OH, the son of Richard and Mazine Chillas Tharp, both deceased. He married Linda Tharp of Dillsboro and she survives.
Survivors also include son Harvey, III, of Cincinnati, OH; daughters Denise of Cincinnati, OH and Tracy of Columbus, OH; and stepdaughters Lisa Wolf and Tonia Mulligan of Cincinnati, OH.
He was preceded in death by his brother Robert R. Tharp.
Mr. Tharp was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam Conflict. He was a Maintenance Supervisor at Stegner Foods in Cincinnati. Mr. Stegner was a long time leader of the Boy Scouts of America.
Visitation will be today, Tuesday, February 21 from 5-9:00 p.m. at the Ulrich Filter Funeral Home, Dillsboro. Funeral services are Wednesday, February 22 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Aurora. Burial will be at the Oakdale Cemetery in Dillsboro with military rites performed by American Legion Post #292.
Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association.

Harold E. Bushorn
Harold E. Bushorn, 93, of Milan, died Friday, February 17, 2006 at Ripley Crossing in Milan. He was born December 19, 1912 in Ripley County the son of Edward and Clara Reinhardt Bushorn, both deceased. He married Rosemary Cook on May 12, 1935 and she preceded him in death on March 27, 1993.
Survivors include son Francis and wife Carole Bushorn of Milan; grandchildren Julie Biddle and Patricia Rather and five great-grandchildren.
He was a retired employee of Seagram’s Distilleries, and a retired farmer. Mr. Bushorn was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church at Stumpke’s Corner.
Funeral services are today, Tuesday, February 21 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church north of Milan with Pastor Richard Mackey officiating. Burial will be at the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery.

M. Loretta Baxter
M. Loretta Baxter, 88, of Dillsboro, died Thursday, February 16, 2006 at the Waters of Dillsboro Manor. She was born November 15, 1917 in Reading, OH the daughter of Joseph Emet Baxter and Eva Lucas, both deceased.
Survivors include seventeen nieces and nephews and two sisters-in-law. She was preceded in death by one sister and three brothers.
Ms. Baxter was the Postmaster in Dillsboro from 1971 to 1995. She was also a member of the 50+ Club and the Hogan Hill Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held Monday, February 20 at 11 a.m. at Ulrich Filter Funeral Home in Dillsboro.
Burial was in the Oakdale Cemetery in Dillsboro. Memorials may go to the First Baptist Church of Dillsboro or the Dillsboro Emergency Unit.

William H. Crimans
William H. Crimans, 80, of Noblesville, passed away Thursday, February 17, 2006.

Ruby J. Treadway
Ruby J. Treadway, 70, of Napoleon and formerly of Sunman, died Friday, February 15, 2006 at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, OH. She was born January 9, 1936 in Corbin, KY the daughter of Hadley and Myrtle Smallwood Bowcock, both deceased.
Survivors include two sons, William Treadway of Indianapolis and David Rutherford of Butlerville; one sister, Pauline Warner of Miamitown, OH; one brother, William Bowcock of Fairfield, OH; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one sister, Mary Bowcock.
Mrs. Treadway was a homemaker and a retired aid-tech at Margaret Mary Community Hospital in Batesville.
Funeral services were held Sunday, February 19 at 1 p.m. at Cook Funeral Home in Sunman with Pastor Duane A. Loos officiating.

Gerald (Jerry) Stout
Gerald (Jerry) Stout, 61, of Versailles, passed away Saturday, February 11, 2006 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati, OH. He was born at Hammond on August 10, 1944 the son of Harold and Aldean Meyers Stout. He was married to Michal Ann Roark on July 8, 1990 and she survives.
Other survivors include three sons, Bruce Stout and his wife Barbara of Vevay, Timothy Stout of Lawrenceburg, Chris Mitchel of Bright; four daughters, Tammy Mata and husband Richard of Vevay, Melissa Mitchel of Lawrenceburg, Kim Roark and Ronnetta Roark both of Versailles; fifteen grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three brothers, Wilbur Stout and Shirley of Scherrville, Raymond Stout and Lois of Martinsville, IL, James Stout and Joyce of St. John; and one sister, Anna Carlton and husband Eugene of East Enterprise. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two sisters.
Mr. Stout was a welder with Batesville Tool and Die since 1993.
Funeral services will be held today, Tuesday, February 14 at 11 a.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Brother Dale Day officiating.

Greg Allen Moore
Greg Allen Moore, 43, of Milan, died Thursday, February 9, 2006 at his residence. He was born September 2, 1962 in Indianapolis the son of A.J. and Janice (Vance) Moore.
Survivors include his mother, Janice (Vance) Hall of Indianapolis; two brothers, Eric Moore of Aurora and Gary Taylor of Versailles; one sister, Rochelle Moore of Holton; maternal grandmother, Tina Stamper of Indianapolis; special aunt, Laura Lee Hylton of Delaware; and several other aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his father, A.J. Moore.
Mr. Moore was an employee of New Horizons in Batesville and also attended the Faith Community Church in Indianapolis.
Funeral services were held Sunday, February 12 at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home in Milan with Pastor Mike Ennis officiating.
Burial was in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Moores Hill. Memorials may go to the Faith Community Church.

Mary J. Bowcock
Mary J. Bowcock, 64, of Sunman, died Friday, February 10, 2006 at Kindrad Hospital South in Greenwood. She was born March 10, 1941 in Corbin, KY the daughter of Hadley and Myrtle Smallwood Bowcock, both deceased. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include one son, Scott Bowcock of Sunman; two sisters, Pauline Warner of Miamitown, OH, Ruby Treadway of Napoleon; one brother, William Bowcock of Fairfield, OH; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held today, Tuesday, February 14, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Cook Funeral Home in Sunman.

Ruby L. Stipe
Ruby L. Stipe, 90, of Milan, died Thursday, February 9, 2006 at Margaret Mary Community Hospital in Batesville. She was born November 20, 1915 in Perry County, KY the daughter of Lida Caudill Watkins and Ben Watkins, both deceased. She married L.D. Bingham and he preceded her in death. She then married Paul Stipe and he also preceded her in death.
Survivors include six children, Bill and Yvonne Bingham of West Plains, MO, Paulene and Kenneth McQueen of Milan, Bob and Barb Bingham of West Plains, MO, Earnestine and Carnell Short of Milan, L.D. (Bud) and Alma Bingham of Elrod, Bennie and Kathie Bingham of Greensburg and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.
Mrs. Stipe was a homemaker and also worked in some nursing. She attended the Churches of the Pentecostal faith.
Funeral services were held Monday, February 13 at Cook Funeral Home in Sunman.
Burial was in the Little Memory Church Cemetery in Sunman. Memorials may go to the family, the Cancer Fund, the Cave Hill Church of God or Little Memory Church of the Old Regular Baptist.

Stanley N. “Sonny” Gayle, Jr.
Stanley N. “Sonny” Gayle, Jr., 67, of Bennington, died Monday, February 13, 2006 at his residence. He was born January 27, 1939 in Sparta, KY, the son of Stanley, Sr. and Lula “Dude” Lanham Gayle. He married Nina R. Hedges and she survives.
Survivors also include mother Lula Gayle; daughter and son-in-law Michelle and Jimmy Horton, of Corydon; son and daughter-in-law Jeffrey and Kathy Gayle of Greenfield; stepson Shannon and wife Desiree Burrow of East Enterprise; sister Glenna and husband Phillip Riley of Vevay; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two step-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by father Stanley Gayle, Sr.; son Michael and brother William.
Mr. Gayle graduated from Central High School in 1957. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. Mr. Gayle was employed at Randall Textron in Vevay until it closed in 1996, then worked at Greensburg Mfg. Tool & Die. He was a member of the Vevay American Legion Post 185.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 15 from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home, 208 Ferry Street, Vevay. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 at the funeral home. Military honors conducted by the Vevay American Legion Post 185 and Vevay VFW Post 5396.
Memorials may be given to the Hospice of King’s Daughters’ Hospital.

Wanda L. Hughes
Wanda L. Hughes, 62, of Osgood, died Friday, February 10, 2006 at her residence. She was born January 22, 1944 in Osgood the daughter of James “Dick” and Martha Arbuckle Fuqua, both deceased. She married Harry A. Hughes on December 21, 1962 and he survives.
Other survivors include one daughter, Kristen Hughes-Elliott and husband Paul Elliott of Aurora. She was preceded in death by two brothers, James and Robert Fuqua and one sister, Donna Flint.
Mrs. Hughes was a member of the Osgood Christian Church. She was also a past 4-H leader of the Hopewell Clover Bees and a past member of the board of directors, First Responder and dispatcher with Rescue 69.
Funeral services will be held today, Tuesday, February 14 at 10 a.m. at Neal’s Funeral Home in Osgood.
Burial will be in the Union Flatrock Cemetery in Osgood. Memorials may go to the Union Flatrock Cemetery or Hospice of Decatur County.

Timothy Ray (Bubba) Thompson, Jr.
Timothy Ray (Bubba) Thompson, Jr., 19, of Holton, died Friday, February 3, 2006 at St. Vincent Hospital in North Vernon. He was born October 30, 1986 in Middletown, OH the son of Timothy R. Sr. and Rebecca (Clouse) Thompson and they survive.
Other survivors include three brothers, Tony, Josh and Brian Thompson of Holton; maternal grandmother, Brenda Everett of Milan; maternal grandfather, Roy Clouse, Sr. of Erin, TN; maternal great-grandmother, Betty Jean Clouse of Middletown, OH; paternal grandmother, Irene Thompson of Middletown, OH; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Timothy was a 2005 graduate of Milan High School.
Graveside services will be held today, Tuesday, February 7 at 11 a.m. at the German Lutheran Cemetery north of Milan with Rev. Robert Folenius officiating.

Brent D. Beckley, 55, of Dillsboro, died Saturday, February 4, 2006.
Surviving are his wife, Constance Beckley of Dillsboro, mother, Naomi Beckley of Dillsboro; four sons, Benjamin of Columbus, Jonathan of Hebron, Kentucky, Greggory of Dillsboro, Timothee of Dillsboro; daughter, Christel Helderman of Cleveland, Ohio; brother Craig of Moores Hill; sister Robin Cook of Dillsboro and one grandchild.
Mr. Beckley recently worked for GE Corporate at a project leader specialist.
Friends may be received from 5-8 p.m., Friday, February 10 at Fitch-Denney Funeral Home, Lawrenceburg.

William R. Kor
William R. Kor, 66, of Sunman, died Saturday, February 4, 2006 at Margaret Mary Community Hospital in Batesville. He was born January 9, 1940 in Cincinnati, OH the son of Russell and Elizabeth Benz Kor, both deceased. He married Judy Reed on September 11, 1965 and she survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Sheila Hardy of Sunman, Sheryl Gross of Sunman; two brothers, Donald Kor of Sunman, John Kor of Phoenix, AZ; and five grandchildren.
Mr. Kor was retired from the Batesville Casket Company. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a 1958 graduate of Sunman High School. He was also a member of the Batesville Assembly of God and a board member of the church.
Visitation will be held today, Tuesday, February 7, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Batesville Assembly of God.
Funeral services will follow visitation at the church at 1 p.m. with Pastor Dale Robbins officiating.
Burial will be in the St. Paul Cemetery in Sunman with military graveside rites conducted the Sunman American Legion.

Joseph Cleatus Jackson
Joseph Cleatus “Joe” Jackson, 69, of Madison, died Saturday, February 4, 2006 at his residence. He was born January 1, 1937 in Ripley County the son of James Jackson and Catherine Adam Jackson and they preceded him in death. He married Rimiko Yamaguchi on June 20, 1967 in Toyko, Japan and she survives.
Other survivors include his daughter, Margaret Jackson of Honolulu, Hawaii; three grandchildren, Kayla, William and Andrew Jackson; nephew, Wes Lawrence of Madison; sister Margaret and husband Ray Lawrence of Madison. She was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Robert Jackson and sister Mary Barnes.
Mr. Jackson was a graduate of Madison High School. He was inducted into the United States Air Force rising to the rank of Technical Sergeant serving as an airline radio operator and supervisor of radio operations. He served during the Vietnam War. He worked for a number of years at the Cummins Holset Plant in Madison and later at Madison Precision.
He was a mason and a member of the Union Lodge #2 F&AM.
Private funeral services were held. Burial was in the Grandview Memorial Gardens, Madison.
