Eagle fans were able to enjoy
a positive season while following their
basketball teams, but as is said, the fat
lady has sang on the year's hopes and aspirations.
However, both the Girls' and Boys' teams
look promising with the youth working their
way to the varsity level.
The Eagle Boys' were removed
from Sectional Championship rights by the
Madison Shawe Memorial Hilltoppers in Sectional
#58 at the South Decatur High School by
the score of 53-51 following a double overtime
contest.
The Eagles opened the Sectional
#58 tournament with the single game to
be played on opening night against the
host South Decatur Cougars, winning the
game 64-51.
In the opening game of the
Friday, March 3 contest, Shawe was slated
against the Rising Sun Shiners. The Hilltoppers
advanced to the Championship contest by
defeating their opponents 56-47.
In the second game, the Eagles
battled the Oldenburg Twisters, defeating
them by a score of 44-31 at games end.
Quarter one scoring found the Eagles trailing
13-4, by halftime, the Twisters yet led
by 1 at 21-20. In the third quarter, the
Eagles edged forward to lead 30-27 and
closed with the 13 point victory, 44-31.
The final game led to two
overtime periods to determine a winner.
In quarter one, Eagles 12-6, at half time
25-16, after three 36-31, and at game's
horn to end regulation, a tie at 43. After
the first overtime period, a 45-45 tie,
and at the end of the second, Shawe 53-51
Jac-Cen-Del. A tough end to a good season.
