Mother Nature & Old Man Winter tag team to bring Spring sports training to a halt

As a deterrent to the progress being made by the area's sports' teams practicing outside, Old Man Winter had one last blast to get off his chest as snow piled the training facilities and forced stoppage of school on Tuesday, March 21.

Along with the closing of area schools, came the cancellation of both the Jac-Cen-Del and the South Ripley winter sports' programs previously scheduled for that evening.

Former South Ripley Lady Raider Julie Lipperd finishes first season as an Eastern Illinois University Lady Panther

Information acquired from Ben Turner. Eastern Illinois SID,Julie Lipperd played in 24 games as a freshman forward. Lipperd scored six points, all in the first half, in the OVC Tournament game at Tennessee Tech. She played a season high 20 minutes at Cincinnati, pulling down five rebounds. Lipperd also collected 5 boards at Tennessee-Martin, adding 5 points as well.

Lipperd is credited with a key role in her 16 minutes of overtime play in their win against Moorehead State. She also played in each of the last 12 games of the season during which she connected on 5 of her last 7 field goal attempts to end the season after beginning the year 1-8.

The Eastern Illinois women's basketball team broke or tied 12 program records during a season that saw the Panthers return to the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament field after a two-year absence.
