James Hudson
Mr. James Hudson, age 74, of Ozark, died Monday, March 27,
2006, at his home following a brief illness.
Funeral services will be 10:30 A. M. Thursday, March 30, 2006
at Grace Baptist Church with Pastor Doug Crosby officiating.
Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memory Gardens, Holman Funeral
Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends at
the funeral home from 5:00 P. M. until 7:00 P. M. Wednesday
evening.
Mr. Hudson was born September 22, 1931 in Hardburly, Kentucky,
to the late Vernon Cassandra Combs Hudson and Clarence Albert
Hudson. In 1950, at the age of nineteen, Mr. Hudson enlisted
in the United States Army, looking for a career that was exciting
and worthwhile. Little did he know then that the years would
hold more than he bargained for when he raised his right hand
on August 16, 1950 and was sworn in at Indianapolis, Indiana.
Mr. Hudson was in the European Theater from 1951 to 1952 and
then went to Korea from 1952 to 1953. While on patrol in Korea
he was struck my multiple bullets and shrapnel, many more than
12 bullet wounds were officially counted by Med-Core. He always
believed that he was allowed to live because God had a plan
for him. He had lived in St. Petersburg, Florida until making
his home in Ozark in 1972. In addition to his parents, Mr.
Hudson was preceded in death by his brother, Donald Hudson,
his sister, Jeanette McDaniel, and his nephew, Alon Hudson.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Richard
Simmons and three grandchildren, Ryan, Ashley, and Alexia Simmons,
all of Atwater, California, one sister and brother-in-law,
Sue and Rocky Griesi of St. Petersburg, Florida, one sister-in-law,
Beverly Hudson of Ozark, a special nephew, James McDaniel of
Kelso, Washington, three nieces, Vicky Jochum and Tracy Luttrell
of Largo, Florida, and Cindy Hunt of Orlando, Florida, three
other nephews, Donald Ray (Chip) Hudson, III of Birmingham,
Ted Smith of St. Petersburg, and Donald Ray Hudson, II of Aurora,
Indiana. One great grandchild, several great nieces and great
nephews also survive.

William D. Ziegler
William D. Ziegler, 94, of Oldenburg, died Saturday, March
25, 2006. Visitation will be today, Thursday, March 30 from
6-8:00 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home in Batesville. Funeral
services will be held Friday, March 31 at 10:30 a.m. at the
Holy Family Church in Oldenburg.
Nancy Pamela Belew
Nancy Pamela Belew, 53, of Cincinnati, OH, passed away Thursday,
March 23, 2006 at her residence. She was born September 4,
1952 in Dearborn County, the daughter of Jessie and Lula
Siemantel Belew.
Survivors include mother Lula Siemantel of Osgood; daughter
Kassondra of Cincinnati; sister Donna Sparkman of Sunman; brother
Elvin of Madison and special friend Thompson.
She was preceded in death by father Jessie Belew.
Ms. Belew was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a former
employee of Christ Hospital in Cincinnati.
Visitation will be Saturday, April 1 at 11:00 a.m. at the Laws-Carr-Moore
Funeral Home in Milan. Funeral services will be held Saturday,
April 1 immediately following visitation at the funeral home
with Rev. Tom Fehrman officiating.

Mary Etta McClellan
Mary Etta McClellan, 72, of Dillsboro died Monday, March 27,
2006 at her residence. She was born May 24, 1933 in Caesar
Creek, the daughter of Carl and Murial Eaglin Goodpaster, both
deceased. She married Paul McClellan, and he preceded her in
death on October 12, 2001.
Survivors include son Danny of Dillsboro; daughter Tina (McClellan)
Spalding of Dillsboro; brothers Ronald of Dillsboro; Kenneth
of Aurora and Robert of Versailles; sisters Janet Oak and Kay
Scott of Dillsboro; grandson Jeremiah of Dillsboro who resided
with Mrs. McClellan, and two other grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by son Richard.
Mrs. McClellan was a cafeteria worker at Seagram’s for
40 years.
Visitation will be today, Thursday, March 30 from 5-8:00 p.m.
at the Ulrich Filter Funeral Home, Dillsboro. Funeral services
will be held Friday, March 31 at 11:00 a.m. at the Ulrich Filter
Funeral Home in Dillsboro. Burial will be at the Oakdale Cemetery
in Dillsboro.
Memorials may be made to the Dillsboro Emergency Unit or the
Dillsboro Fire Department.

Ernestine F. Hammon
Ernestine F. Hammon, 79, of Fairfield, Ohio passed away Sun-day,
March 19, 2006 at her resi-dence. She was born at Milan on March
28, 1926 the daughter of Emil Otto and Martha Figula Reuter.
She was married to John Hammon on January 26, 1952 and he survives.
Other survivors include one son Wayne Hammon, and one daughter
Janie Hammon both of Cincinnati; three grandchildren; one sister
Betty Asche of Santa Rosa, California.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers Elmer
and Walter Reuter.
Mrs. Hammon was a former employee of the Milan Furniture Factory,
Schenleys in Lawrence-burg, and Kirschners in Milan.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 25 at 1:00 p.m.
at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. Visitation
will be from 11:00 a.m. until time of services. Burial will
be in the Tanglewood Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the Angel Fund of the Cincinnati Zoo

Jesse Allen Cole, Jr., 36, of Dillsboro died Monday, March 20,
2006. Visitation will be Friday, March 24 from 1-3:00 p.m. at

Barbara
Groppenbecker
Barbara Groppenbecker, 55, of Batesville passed away Tuesday,
March 7, 2006 at the Margaret Mary Community Hospital in Batesville.
She was born at Hazard, Kentucky on October 9, 1950 the daughter
of Samuel and Ruby Sturgill Lewis. She was married to Terry
Groppenbecker in February of 1984 and he survives.
Other survivors include three sons, Jerry Shelton of Batesville,
Danny Smallwood of Vevay, and Randy Smallwood of Batesville;
three daughters, Priscilla Duffy of Cincinnati, Natasha Smallwood
of Madison, and Lisa Smallwood of Batesville; 11 grandchildren
and one great-grandchild; two brothers, Chuck Sturgill and
Wade “Bimbo” Lewis both of Cincinnati; two sisters
Nugget Sturgill of Cincinnati and Regina Sturgill of Florida.
Mrs. Groppenbecker was a former employee of New Horizons in
Batesville.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 10 at 11:00 a.m.
at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. Visitation
will be Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services. Burial
will be in the Akers Cemetery at Friendship.
Memorials may be given to the cemetery in care of the funeral
home.

Hugh Reed, 93, of North Vernon, passed away Tuesday, March
7, 2006.

Martha J. Luesse, 84, formerly of Batesville, died Monday, March 6, 2006.

10 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. Louis Church.
Richard Lee Lemen
Richard Lee Lemen, 71, of Batesville, passed away Monday, March
6, 2006 in Batesville. Born June 19, 1934 in Osgood, he was
the son of Chancie and Naomi Black Lemen, both deceased.
He married Kathryn Bray on October 6, 1956 in Versailles
and she survives.
Survivors also include daughters Vicki Thoman of Greensburg;
Karen and husband John Mollaun of Indianapolis; and Mary Jane
and husband Sam Harris of Hendersonville, TN; son Roger of
Batesville; six grandchildren; siblings Sherman Lemen of Osgood;
Mary Ellen Hammersley of Frankfort; Eva Crum of Madison; Phyllis
Courtaney of West Lafayette and Winnie Hetrick of Pennsylvania.
He was preceded in death by brothers Carl, Buddy, Joe and Chancie,
Jr; and sisters Dorothy Rolston, Alberta Fender and an infant
sister.
He was a 1952 graduate of Versailles High School, 1956 graduate
of Purdue University and received his Masters in Education
from Indiana University in 1965. He started his teaching career
in the fall of 1956 at Batesville High School. He taught science
for eight years and coached football, basketball and track.
He served one year as assistant principal and was appointed
principal in 1965, a position he held until he retired in 1992.
Mr. Lemen received numerous awards and commendations during
his career. Perhaps the most coveted is the Indiana Secondary
School Administrator.
He was a member of the Batesville Lion’s Club, Indiana
State Retired Teachers Assoc., Versailles Lodge F&AM #7,
Scottish Rite & Murat Shrine both of Indianapolis, Order
of the Eastern Star and the Batesville United Methodist Church.
Funeral services are today, Thursday, March 9 at 10:00 a.m.
at the Batesville United Methodist Church with Rev. Larry Marhanka
officiating. Burial will be in Cliff Hill Cemetery in Versailles.
