Mable Ruth Chandler
Mable Ruth Chandler, 86, Cross Plains, died Thursday Dec. 14, 2006, at her daughter Jean Tipton's home in Lexington.
She was born the daughter of Roy McGee and Grace Mae (Jackson) McGee on June 30, 1920 in Cross Plains.
On Dec. 23, 1939, she married Thurman Chandler. She worked at the former Meyers & Son Manufacturing for over 25 years. Before retiring in 1987, she was secretary of the Salem Cemetery Association for many years. She was active with Vacation Bible School and active in the church for several years. She belonged to the Cross Plains Church of Christ.
In her spare time she enjoyed flowers, gardening, quilting, crocheting and Indiana University basketball. She loved family gatherings.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband and a brother, Dale McGee.
She is survived by four daughters: Wanda Cantrell of Tamms, Ill., Judy Cole of Madison, Sharon Turner of Bedford, Ky., and Norma Jean Tipton and husband John of Lexington; three sons: David Chandler and wife Anita, Steve Chandler and wife Linda of Cross Plains; Keith Chandler and wife Benna of Lexington; 21 grandchildren; several great grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday, December 17 at the Cross Plains Church of Christ with Evangelist Logan Fugate officiating. Interment was in the Salem Cemetery near Cross Plains. Vail-Holt Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Leona C. Suding
Leona C. Suding, 91, of Batesville, passed away Mon-day, December 18, 2006 at The Waters of Batesville.
Visitation will be Wednes-day, December 20 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at the St. Louis Church in Batesville. Funeral services will follow at noon at the church with Rev. Dennis Duvelius officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Debra Jo Sloan

Debra Jo Sloan, 46, of Batesville, passed away Thursday, December 14, 2006 at the Margaret Mary Community Hospital, Batesville.

Howard J. "Bob" Green
Howard J. "Bob" Green, 91, of Clinton, Kentucky, formerly of Cross Plains passed away Thursday, December 7, 2006 at the Arbor Place Health Care Center in Clinton. He was born at Cross Plains on January 15, 1915 the son of John and Anna West Green. He was married to Evelyn Spencer on January 16, 1942 and she preceded him in death on April 26, 1993.
Survivors include one son Bill Green and his wife Millie of Mayfield, Kentucky; one daughter Barbara Sofianos and her husband George of Wheaton; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; one brother Lawrence Green of Versailles.
Mr. Green was a retired farmer and had formerly worked at Jefferson Proving Ground. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Olean.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 13 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Olean with Pastor Marcus Felde officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 6-8:00 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles and from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the church or cemetery in care of the funeral home.


Melvin Arthur Thie
Melvin Arthur Thie, 71, of Batesville, passed away Friday, December 8, 2006.
Funeral services will be held today, Tuesday, December 12 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. John United Church of Christ in Batesville. Burial will be in the St. John Church Cemetery, Huntersville.
Meyers Funeral Home in Batesville is in charge of arrangements.

Ruth Lengerich
Ruth Lengerich, 68 of Versailles passed away Saturday, December 9, 2006 at the home of her daughter in Holton. She was born in Cincinnati on October 21, 1938 the daughter of Edward and Loraine Jacob Honnigford. She was married to Richard Lengerich on October 4, 1958 and he survives.
Other survivors include four sons, Richard Lengerich and his wife Rebecca of Cross Plains, Benjamin and Leanne of Canaan, Patrick and Megan of Versailles, and Derek Lengerich of Versailles; nine daughters, Cynthia Calhoun and her husband Bob of Pleasant, Jennifer and Curtis Sturgeon of Friendship, Theresa Haugh of Milan, Andrea and Lloyd Meister of Napoleon, Michelle Franklin of Holton, Laurie and Tony Wood of Versailles, Rebecca and Tom Lovins of Dillsboro, Sandra and Scott Mulford of Versailles, Erin and Matt Rutledge of Canaan; 30 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; one sister Elaine Distler of Loveland, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Adam, and her brother Edward Honnigford.
Mrs. Lengerich was a homemaker and a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Osgood. She was an accomplished author having written the books With This Ring I Thee Wed, The Bakers Dozen and Autumn Serenade. She also had written and directed several plays for her church.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, December 13 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Johns in Osgood with Father Frank Eckstein officiating. Burial will be in the Craven Cemetery in Milan. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-8:00 p.m. at the church.
Memorials may be given to Great Rewards in care of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles.

Ruth Marie Osborne Jackson
Ruth Marie Osborne Jackson, 97, of Versailles, formerly of Vevay passed away Saturday, December 2, 2006 at Miller’s Merry Manor in Rushville. She was born January 31, 1909 in Fairview, the daughter of Frank and Mary Alice Dennis Osborne, both deceased. She married Robert E. Jackson and he preceded her in death on November 2, 1960.
Survivors include her nieces who cared for her, Evelyn Miller and husband Wayne of Rushville and Eileen Fair and husband Robert of Franklin; several half-nieces, half-nephews, great nieces and nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her brother Roy Osborne; half-brothers Sam, Chester, Harry, Mort, Amie and Earl Osborne and half sister Clara Grantham.
Mrs. Jackson was a 1927 graduate of Vevay High School and a graduate of Ball State University. She taught 4th and 8th grades at the old Vevay Junior High School and retired from South Ripley Elementary School, after 45 years of teaching. Mrs. Jackson was a member of the Switzerland Baptist Church; Delta Kappa Gamma Education Sorority; Tri Kappa in Versailles; Indiana Retired Teachers Association; National Retired Teachers Association; Ripley County Retired Teachers Association and the Julia L. Dumont Literary Club.
Visitation will be Wednesday, December 6 from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Haskell & Morrison Funeral Home in Vevay and on Thursday from Noon until time of funeral services. Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 7 at 1:00 p.m. at the Switzerland Baptist Church, 307 Main Cross Street, Vevay, with Rev. Howard Wade officiating. Burial will be at the Vevay Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the Switzerland Baptist Church.

Anthony F. Nobbe, 84, of Batesville, died Saturday, De-cember 2, 2006 at Margaret Mary Community Hospital in Batesville.

Julie A. Taylor Richmer
Julie A. Taylor Richmer, 50, of Madison passed away Friday, December 1, 2006 at King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison. She was born March 10, 1956 in Madison, the daughter of Wilbert F. and Sue Stines Taylor. She married Dale E. Richmer of Madison and he survives.
Survivors also include her mother, Sue Stines Taylor of Madison; son Andy Richmer of Madison; brothers Tim Taylor and wife Rhonda of Rexville; Ron Taylor and wife Traci of Madison; Steve Taylor and wife Vicki of Rexville; sister Susan Lock of Osgood; six nieces; six nephews; several aunts, uncles and other relatives; and her mother-in-law and father-in-law Forrest and Agnes Richmer of Lanesville.
She was preceded in death by her father, Wilbert F. Taylor on April 12, 1997.
Mrs. Richmer was a 1974 graduate of South Ripley High School. She attended Purdue University. Mrs. Richmer was employed as an instructional as-sistant with the Madison Con-solidated School System, work-ing at E.O. Muncie Elementary School and then for the past 12 years at the Ryker’s Ridge Ele-mentary School. She was a member of the West Fork Bap-tist Church.
Funeral services will be held today, Tuesday, December 5 at 1:00 p.m. at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison with Pastor Jim Scroggins officiating. Visitation will be today from 9:00 a.m. until time of services. Burial will be at the West Fork Cemetery in Ripley County.
Memorials may be given to the Ryker’s Ridge Elementary School.

Lloyd Wayne Cooper
Lloyd Wayne Cooper, 89, of Batesville, passed away Wednesday, November 29, 2006 at St. Andrews Health Care. He was born in Manchester on March 8, 1917, the son of Roy and Bertha (Mason) Cooper, both deceased. He married Mary Etta Williamson of Batesville on May 6, 1944 and she preceded him in death October 26, 1994.
Survivors include son Robert Cooper of Batesville; brother Bill Cooper of Indianapolis; sister June Pillow of Indianapolis; grandchildren Tim, Tony and Greg Cooper; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters.
Mr. Cooper retired from Hill-Rom in 1982. He was a member of the Batesville United Methodist Church.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 2, 2006 at the Meyers Funeral Home in Batesville with Rev. Charles Flory officiating. Burial was in the New Craven Cemetery in Milan.
Memorials may be given to the Batesville Fire Department or Rescue 10.

Bill Gabbard
Bill Gabbard, 77, of Cross Plains passed away Sunday, December 3, 2006 at the King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison. He was born at McKey in Owsley County, Kentucky on June 28, 1929 the son of George and Vesta Metcalf Gabbard. He was married to Connie Scott on November 2, 1974 and she survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Billy Gabbard and his wife Missy of Cross Plains and Michael and Stephanie Gabbard of San Diego; two daughters Suzanne Cox and her husband Paul of Florida and Vickie Morton of Versailles; three step-sons, Mark Robinson and his wife Bobbi Jo of Madison, Ed and Tracy Robinson of Cross Plains, and Andy Robinson of Madison; two step-daughters, Marsha Scott of Canaan and Lisa Redwine and her husband Fred of Madison; three grandchildren, 12 step-grandchildren and six step great-grandchildren; brother Jim Gabbard of Florida; two sisters Shirley Halcomb of Versailles and Zella Cruncleton of St. Louis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters and three brothers.
Mr. Gabbard was a plasterer and had retired from the Halcomb Home Center in Versailles. He was a member of the Versailles Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 7 at 1:00 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. Burial will be in the Grandview Memorial Gardens near Madison. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5-8:00 p.m.
Memorials may be given to the donor’s choice.
