Area schools address staph infection (MRSA) issue
|
Wanda English Burnett, Editor
MRSA, methicillin-resistant Staph aureus, also
known as the Superbug, is an antibiotic resistant
strain of Staph infection that has caused quite
a stir in many communities recently.
With a 17-year-old senior students death in
Virginia being reportedly connected to MRSA, school
officials have been cautious with the strain knowing
its strength. Last week a report of a confirmed
case at the Milan schools had some parents worried.
Superintendent Andrew Jackson told the media that
the student was being treated by a physician, and
the school corporation was following the Center
for Disease Control guidelines. A letter was sent
home on Wednesday, October 24, about the situation
that also outlined precautions for parents to take.

removed from Milan residents' bills
|
Cathy May, Contributing

We promised the people we would remove
the surcharge from their water bill and thats
what we are going to do. Those were
the words of Milan Town Board member Bob Branigan
as the board voted to remove the $6.36 surcharge
the town has had on the water bill for the
past five years. The surcharge, or tracker
charge as it is listed, was put on when Hoosier
Hills Water District added an extra charge
to the town. Now that charge has been removed
and the people of Milan will get a little
relief.

her children had brought her from their senior trips.
I thought, no one can see them in this
closet, why not set them out?

A lawsuit filed September 17
in the Jefferson Circuit Court against the City
of Madison, elected officials, police officers
and the Clifty Fire Department No. 6, claims
three female Madison High School seniors were
assaulted sexually and illegally confined. The
allegations stem from a traffic stop made January

has come forward saying she too was sexually
assaulted by one of the same officers involved
