SR Lady Raiders and JCD Lady Eagles battle for last time in Tyson Auditorium

Another piece of history was added to the Tyson Auditorium basketball archives on Thursday, January 31, when the South Ripley Lady Raiders and the Jac-Cen-Del Lady Eagles ended their regular seasons. for 2008 in battle against each other.
The Lady Raider JV opened the evening with a six point victory, defeating the Lady Eagles 41-35.

Varsity game
Lady Raider senior Susannah Mann opened the scoring in the varsity game with back to back field goals, followed by senior teammate Kellie Collier's 3-pointer from long range to take a seven to zip lead.
Coach Scott Smith called for a time out. Quickly following continuation of play, Lady Eagle senior Kaylin Ploeger erupted under the basket for a basket to put her team on the board. Lady Raider Jordan Vinup countered with a bucket for them. That's when Lady Eagle senior Kiersten Young took charge delivering apair of field goals and a 3-pointer, to bring the game to its first tie at 9-9.
In the remainder of the quarter, Lady Raiders Mann added a FG, Alex Snyder made 1 of 2 FT's and Sarah Webster sank a pair of FT's. Lady Eagles scoring came from a pair of FT's by Ploeger, a FG by Becca Wagner and a 3-pointer drilled from deep by Kristen Hicks. The first quarter ended with the Lady Eagles up two, 16-14.
Second Quarter
Lady Raider Erica Ester opened the scoring with a FG, Lady Eagle Young connected on two of four FT attempts, and Lady Raider Ester went on a seven point scoring freenzy, making three FG's and a FT to recapture the lead at 23-20.
Through the rest of the second period of play, Lady Eagle scoring came from Young with a FT and two 3-pointers, a pair of FT's by Ploeger, Simon scored a FT and Becca Wagner sank a 3-pointer. Lady Raider scoring came from a Collier FT, a pair of Webster FT's, and a FG each by Ester and Katie Polly. The second quarter ended with JCD narrowly leading by three at 33-30.
Third Quarter
Following the break, Lady Eagle Becca Wagner brought the house down with string of 11 consecutive points to distance the nmargin to 14 at 44-30, with half of the third period used up.
During the remainder of the period, Wagner added a FG and teammate Janine Huff scored a FG as well. The Lady Raider scoring came from Alex Snyder with two FG's and two 3-pointers by Mann to end the third with JCD up by 15 at 55-40.
Final Quarter
The Lady Eagles extended there lead to 17 points in opening the fourth period with a FG by Valorie Wagner, 57-40. Fourth quarter scoring from then on by the Lady Eagles came from Ploeger with two FT's, Hicks made a FG and two FT's, Valorie Wagner added a FG, Becca Wagner scored a FG and two FT's and Young made a FG.
The Lady Raider scoring in the fourth period came from five Ester FG's,. a Collier 3-pointer, four Mann FT's, and an Alex Snyder FG.

Girls Sectional action begins this week

Seems the year has only begun and January is already a piece of history. In Indiana it means spring is a little closer and basketball begins its second season, at least for the girls.
1A Girls Sectional #60
at Jac-Cen-Del HS
Opening the 1A sectional #60 play at Jac-Cen-Del High School on Tuesday night, February 5, will be the Madison Shawe Lady Hilltoppers in a battle against the hosting JacCen-Del Lady Eagles.
The Lady Hilltoppers gave the Lady Eagles their first loss of the season, 47-43, at JCD on Tuesday, January 24. The opening game between the two teams will tip off at 7 p.m. Gym doors will be opened for entry at 6:15 with only one game slated for the evening.
Sectional #60's second night of play will continue on Friday, January 8, with the first game set to tip off at 6 p.m. Gym doors will open at 5:15 p.m. The opening game on Friday night slates the South Decatur Lady Cougars against the Oldenburg Academy Lady Twisters.
The second game on the venue Friday will find the Rising Sun Lady Shiners against the winner of the (JCD/Shawe) match from Tuesday.
The Saturday night, February 9, Sectional #60 Championship game will tip off at 7:30 p.m, with doors opening for entry at 6:45 p.m.
Sectional #60's Champion will play the winner from the University Sectional in the first game on Saturday, February 16, at Southwestern Shelbyville.

2A Girls Sectional #44
at Lawrenceburg HS
The 2A Girls Sectional #44 play at Lawrenceburg High School will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday night, February 5, with the Hauser Lady Jets in battle against the Switzerland County Lady Pacers. Doors will be opened for entry at 5:30 p.m.
The Wednesday, February 6, sectional draw slates the Milan Lady Indians against the North Decatur Lady Chargers, with tip off at 6 p.m. Doors will be opened for entry at 5 p.m. Wednesday nights second game slates the South Ripley Lady Raiders against the Southwestern Hanover Lady Rebels. Their tip off will follow the conclusion of the opening game.
On Friday night, February 8, Sectional #44 action opens with the hosting Lawrenceburg Lady Tigers taking on the winner of Tuesday night's Hauser/Switzerland County winner with the tip off at 6 p.m. Doors will be opened for entry at 5 p.m.
Friday night's second game action will be between the Wednesday night winners of the (Milan/North Decatur and South Ripley/S'western Hanover) games.
Doors will be opened at 6 p.m. for the Saturday night, February 9, Sectional #44 Championship game, with tip off set for 7 p.m.
The Lawrenceburg Sectional #44 Championship winner will play in game one of the regional held at Batesville HS on Saturday, February 16, against the winner of the Elwood Sectional.
