Lady Eagles destroy Shawe Lady Hilltoppers in sectional #60
opener
Gary Franklin, Sports Writer
Some may relate to the 20 point, 61-41
defeat of the Lady Hilltoppers by the Lady Eagles in their
sectional opener as a game of vengence, following the Hilltoppers
upsetting them when the Lady Eagles were on a 16-0 run. However,
those following the Lady Eagles would argue that the true
difference between the two teams was finally allowed to be
evidenced.
Without a doubt, fans found the Lady Eagles playing with a
stronger determination to get the job done in this meeting.
A perfect season would look pretty on paper for years to come,
but to advance beyond regular season play is what all teams
work for, from the opening day of practice as each new season
begins, and JCD's win affords season continuation in that
respect.
JCD Lady Eagles vs Shawe Lady Hilltoppers
Bryce Kendrick announced the game for the sectional with JCD
7th grader, Amy Powers, singing the National Anthem before
tipoff.
Lady Hilltopper Maria Berry scored the first FG, matched by
Valorie Wagner's FG for the Lady Eagles to tie the game at
two. The game was again tied at nine and 22 before the half
time break, but the second half belonged to the Lady Eagles.
The Lady Eagles will play the Rising Sun Lady Shiners in the
second game of Friday evenings venue on February 8. The opening
game slates the Oldenburg Academy Lady Twisters against the
South Decatur Lady Cougars, beginning at 6 p.m. The championship
game for the Class 1A Sectional #60 will tip off at 7:30 p.m.
on Saturday, February 9.
