Condition
of community building discussed at Holton Town Board meeting
Cathy May, Contributing Writer
Wilma Myers read from her notes at the Holton
Town Board meeting in April, On Tuesday, the Holton Hometowners
hosted a meal for the Ripley County Democrats. For the first time
since it opened I was ashamed of our community building. It was
so dirty. It should be a showplace at all times. When I was on
the Holton Town Board and the building needed cleaned, I cleaned
it myself as I thought that was an obligation of a board member.
Holton Town Board President Paul Hughes said, I apologize
and take full responsibility. You wont ever have to worry
about it again. The town still has not hired anyone to clean
the building.
The board is meeting with Mark Comer at the Napoleon State Bank
regarding the property it wishes to purchase next to the cinder
building. The property is one fourth of an acre. The building
on it will have to be demolished and a new maintenance building
constructed. Board member Ryan Lauber had spoken with Julie Berry
of the Southeastern Indiana Regional Planning office. She suggested
the town get zoning and bids ready to apply to the Rising Sun
Regional Foundation in June.
There was again discussion on the sewer debt of $24,000. Citizens
made several suggestions. Paul Hughes said he would check into
it.
Several citizens complained about old homes in disrepair that
should be torn down. The subject of junk vehicles and homes that
are not kept up was also brought before the board. Hughes said
he would look into options.
The town is taking applications for a deputy clerk position. It
is a part time job for about $3,900 a year, which is $9.00 an
hour. Clerk Treasurer Kristi Bartosz said her mother has stage
four lung cancer and is having surgery. Depending upon the results,
she may have to resign her position.
All three members of the Holton Town Board were in attendance:
Paul Hughes, Ryan Lauber, and Angi Farrell. Clerk-Treasurer Kristi
Bartosz was present to advise the board. The next regular meeting
will be May 8 at 7:00 p.m. at the Holton Community Building.
