Officers from the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic dispute in Osgood involving Clifford H. “Doc” Winters, 44, of Osgood, and a female, Sunday morning, August 30. When officers arrived Winters was no longer at the residence. There was no charging information available at press time, according to the officer, Rob Bradley, who initially responded to the call.

At 11:45 a.m. police received another call from a different Osgood residence on Leslie Street, where they found Winters with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to a State Police spokesperson.

Winters was transported by PHI to the University of Cincinnati Hospital, where he underwent surgery for his wound.

Contrary to rumors, Winters was not shot by police, nor was there a stand-off situation involved.
No further information was available at press time and the incident is currently under investigation by the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office and the Indiana State Police, Versailles Post.
