Ladies vye for Miss Ripley County title

Nine young ladies attended the Queen’s Tea last Friday evening as each is vying for the Miss Ripley County title for 2010.

The ladies met at the Versailles Baptist Church where they heard instruction about the upcoming pageant that will be held at the Damm Theatre in Osgood on July 11 to determine the winners. The queen and her court will reign over the Ripley County 4-H Fair, which is slated to begin July 17.

Candidates include:

• Bridget Hartman of Batesville. She is the daughter of Tim Hartman and will be a freshman at Ball State University this year. She is active in the Book Club and FCCLA. She is sponsored by Lecher Sawmill Inc.

• Julianne Hoffrogge of Dillsboro is the daughter of Don and Diane Hoffrogge. She will be a sophomore in college. She enjoys participating in her church choir and is sponsored by the Milan Volunteer Fire Department.

• Jessie Menchhofer of Holton is the daughter of Tom and Melissa Menchhofer. She will be a senior at South Ripley High School. She is active in 4-H, FFA, the Hopewell Youth Group, and is a guest board member of the Farm Bureau. She is sponsored by Comer’s Garage.

• Michelle Narwold of Batesville is the daughter of Dale and Anita Narwold. She will be a senior at Batesville High School. She is involved in the National Honor Society, FFA, 4-H, St. John’s UCC Youth Group and is sponsored by Narwold Transport Inc. and Pierson Construction.

• Jessica Osborne of Holton is the daughter of David and Karen Osborne. She will be a freshman at Purdue University where she is studying to be a special education teacher. Her activities include: 10-year 4-H member, Math Club, Social Studies Club, SAW, FCA, band, choir, Young Confederates, majorettes, and National Honor Society. She is sponsored by Odyssey Full Service Salon, Sara Comer.

• Ashley Vestal is the daughter of Robert and Lisa Vestal of Versailles. She will be a senior at South Ripley High School. She plans to pursue a degree in Criminal Justice at Northern Kentucky University after high school. Her activities include: FFA, 4-H, Ripley County Junior Leaders, Ripley County Youth Advisory Board, Junior Member 4-H Corporation Board, SADD, Social Studies Club, CNNSR, Math Club, SR Band, and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church Youth group. She is sponsored by Owen Menchhofer, Farm Bureau Insurance.

• Sarah Webster of Versailles is the daughter of Michael and Sally Webster. She will be a freshman at the University of Indianapolis seeking a doctoral degree in Physical Therapy. Her activities include: SADD, Math Club, Social Studies Club, FFA, Varsity Club, National Honors Society, Olean Volunteers and 4-H. Her sponsor is Newman Vollmer House Bed & Breakfast.

• Olivia Woolum of Versailles is the daughter of Steve and Mary Ellen Woolum and attends South Ripley High School. Her activities include: Varsity Club, Social Studies Club, SAE, school newspaper (Raiders Riot) and 4-H. She is being sponsored by Woolum Real Estate.

• Victoria Woulms of Milan is the daughter of Todd and Ann Woulms. She will be a freshman in college. She hopes to one day own her own veterinary practice and go on to start a rescue for unwanted animals. Her activities include: 4-H member, Jr. Leader, student council, class representative, National Honor Society, pep band, concert band, Cowboy mounted shooting, track and field, cross-country, soccer, and wrestling mat maid. She is sponsored by Twisted G Farms and Garner Welding.

The ladies enjoyed the company of last year’s Miss Ripley County, Kathryn Sidell along with Denae Pyle, last year’s State Fair Queen.
