Lester T. McConnell, Jr.

Lester T. McConnell, Jr., 75, of Holton, was born December 1, 1938 at Hamilton, Ohio. He was the son of the late Lester Thomas and Josephine Hamlin McConnell, Sr. He was married to Norma Jean Nowlin, who survives at the Manderley Health Care Center in Osgood.

Lester raised and provided for his family by working as a fence builder and welder. His family expressed that their father had always loved the great outdoors and especially fishing and hunting. Along with this, he enjoyed farming and also working on cars.

Among his family and CB radio friends, he was known as the “Crazy Man.” Lester’s family jokingly laughed and stated that this name really fit him. He’d try anything; for example, later in his life he had lost his leg. Even with this disability, he had climbed a 80 foot CB tower to work on it. His family all agreed though, that the most comical memory after the loss of his leg, was the day he rode his motorcycle and as he came to a screeching halt, he put his lost leg down! He was proud of his family and grandchildren. Lester passed away Saturday, October 11, 2014, at the King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison.

Survivors include his wife, Norma Jean Nowlin McConnell of Osgood; sons: Thomas Jay and Renee McConnell of Holton, Timothy Allen and Lou McConnell of Milan, Kenneth Dean McConnell of Versailles and Kevin Joseph and Amy McConnell of Batesville; daughters: Tammy Sue McConnell of Milan, Tonya Louise Lewis of North Vernon, Terri Lynn and John Mayberry of North Vernon and Lori Ann and Robert Herbert of Moores Hill; brother, Bob McConnell of Ohio; sisters: Barbara Cope and Linda McConnell of Ohio; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Christopher McConnell and three brothers, Jack, Mike and Rick McConnell.

Funeral services will be held all in one day, Wednesday, October 15, at Neal’s Funeral Home, Osgood, with visitation from 5-7 p.m., funeral immediately following. Cremation will occur and burial will be at the convenience of the family. Memorials may be given to the Osgood Area Kiwanis in care of the funeral home. Neal’s Funeral Home, Osgood, is in charge of arrangements; www.nealsfuneralhome.net.
