Children’s Advocacy Center gears up for Mardi Gras Ball

More than 3,300 children and their families have received the much-needed assistance to navigate the often-confusing legal system since the Children’s Advocacy Center’s inception in 2009. However, there is a hitch. This is a non-profit organization where numbers are an important component. From the demographics of the agency, number of clients, area it serves, to the funds needed to keep the agency afloat – numbers play a big part.

Teens in Mississippi arrested for bomb threat at Batesville High School

Last Wednesday, December 6 the Batesville Police Department was notified by staff at the Batesville High School that they had received a bomb threat by telephone. This call came into the Batesville Police Department about 8:14 a.m. Batesville officers responded immediately to the school to investigate the incident and according to Major Brad Wessel, quickly determined the phone number appeared to originate from Batesville, Mississippi.

Make sure you lock your car, house

As the holiday season grows near, law enforcement reminds people to make sure they lock their vehicles and homes. While nothing will prevent someone from stealing, if they really want to, Sheriff Jeff Cumberworth says a locked door is often a deterrent. Keep packages out of sight, perhaps locking them in the trunk if possible when shopping. Be aware of your surroundings and shop in pairs if possible. Often crooks are looking for an easy target, perhaps someone distracted by a cell phone, etc. Report anyone to authorities who is acting suspicious.

Prosecutor elected president of Association of Indiana Prosecutors

Ripley County Prosecutor Richard J. “Ric” Hertel was recently elected president of the Association of Indiana Prosecutors, Inc., for a one-year term, succeeding Hendricks County Prosecutor Patricia A. Baldwin.

Helping Hands needs help

The Helping Hands Fund, an arm of the South Ripley Ministerial Association, is experiencing low funds as it endeavors to help many, not only at Christmas, but throughout the year. According to Pastor Sandy of St. Peters UCC on Finks Road, they are dedicating their entire offering collected at their traditional Christmas Eve Service to this cause.

When the 2018 legislative session begins next month, Indiana students will have a unique opportunity - the chance to serve as a page for the Indiana State Senate. Paging is set up for students in grades six through 12, and includes a full day of activities. Students meet with their state senator, hear about public policy, tour the Indiana Statehouse, observe session debates on the Senate floor, and assist staff with age-appropriate tasks.

Gregory R. Hawkins, 53, Indianapolis, pleaded guilty to speeding. He was fined $168.50. Inna A. Hicks, 47, Lexington, Ky., pleaded guilty to speeding. She was fined $155.50. Carl R. Howard, Jr., 60, Greenwood, pleaded guilty to speeding. He was fined $155.50. Hayley T. Huntington, 51, Batesville, pleaded guilty to speeding. She was fined $155.50.
