Eagles open 2014-15 season at home vs. St. Louis

Local area winter boys basketball season opened at JCDES before a full house in a battle between the visiting St. Louis Cardinals and hosting Jac-Cen-Del Eagles boys seventh grade teams on Thursday evening, Nov. 6.

Standing are Blake Simon (34), Adrian Peetz (45), Garrett Boor (43), Trevor Brison (55) and Coach Brad Goldsberry. Unavailable at time of photo was team member Dalton Simon (44).

Seventh grade game
The Eagles got a lead in the early going and never felt much pressure as they played to an 8-0 lead after one period of play, a 16-5 edge going into the halftime break, a score of 19-6 after three quarters had been played and the final score of 26-12 for the victory. In looking over the Eagles roster, many of the players had just finished a busy cross country season, conditioning being a prominent part of the game.

Eighth grade game
It seemed that everything the seventh grade Eagles were able to do, fell the other way in the eighth grade game, as the Cardinals quickly jumped out to a 6-0 lead shortly after the center court tip. Adrian Peetz broke the ice with a field goal score, but found St. Louis leading 8-2 after one. The Cardinals added 10 in the second and led 18-2 at the halftime break. The third period score was St Louis 30-11 JCD, leading to a final tally at St Louis 38-13 JCD.

The Eagles had little time to think about it as they were slated to play in a South Ripley hosted Round Robin Tournament on Saturday against SR and Southwestern Hanover. (Milan had chosen not to compete.)
