Georgetown College hosts ‘Play for 22’

Gary Franklin
SPORTS EDITOR

In a memo relayed from Andrea McCloskey, Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Georgetown College, the Georgetown College Girls Basketball team is hosting a “Play for 22” game honoring the courage of Lauren Hill, a former Lawrenceburg Lady Tiger basketball standout who is currently living with brain cancer.

Coach McCloskey wrote, “Jessica Foster, who played at South Ripley High School, and teammates at Georgetown College want to honor Lauren Hill’s courage and help raise funds for the Hill family and the cure for brain cancer.” In honor of Lauren and her courage, we are having a “Play for 22” game on Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2014 at 6 p.m. vs. Midway.
All the money raised from ticket sales and other donations will be sent to Lauren’s family. Jessica Foster plans on wearing #22 in the game in honor of Lauren.

The Georgetown College mascot is the same as the Lawrenceburg High School mascot, a Tiger. During the Georgetown game, the players will be wearing T-shirts that say on the front “Play for 22” and on the back “Once a Tiger always a Tiger” (in honor of Lauren’s high school).

“I am not sure if it is possible, but we have invited Lauren’s college and high school teams along with her family to our game,” stated Coach McCloskey. She went on to say, “Our team, and especially Jessica, are touched by Lauren’s courage and we all want to help.”
