Cindy Miller

Cindy Miller, 58, of Milan, passed away Friday, February 14, 2014, at her residence. Cindy was born Saturday, February 4, 1956, in Gas City, Ind., the daughter of Charles Dean and Ida Mae (Sikkema) Jones. She married Glen F. Miller, December 31, 1981 and he survives.

Other survivors include sons Matthew Miller of Decatur, Alan Miller of Muncie; daughter Rachel Miller of Newburgh; brother Steve Jones of Indianapolis; sisters Deana Bowlds and Toni Keevil both of Indianapolis, Terri Barker and Debbie Dresselhaus both of Holton, and Jenni Raake of Cincinnati. She was preceded in death by a sister Sharon Gilliland.

Cindy graduated from Marion High School in 1974 and Cincinnati Technical College receiving her RN degree. She had worked at the North Vernon Nursing Home, Waters at Dillsboro, Silver Bell, and the ICU Dept. at Winona Hospital in Indianapolis. She recently had worked for Advantage Home Health Care. She loved rocks and fossils, her animals, and family time.

Services for Cindy will be Saturday February 22, 3 p.m. at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home, Milan. Visitation will be Saturday 1-3 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials may be given to Dearborn County Hospice.

Tim Bultman

Tim Bultman, 60, passed away Monday, February 10, 2014 at his residence.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Char Bultman; daughter Angie Meyer; son Jeremy Bultman; eleven grandchildren; his mother Pat Bultman; and two brothers, Greg and Ryan Bultman.

He retired from the National Guard after 24 years of service.

His memorial service will be held at the Holton Christian Church at 2 p.m., Saturday, February 22. In lieu of flowers please make all donations to Char Bultman.

Gary Lee Kessens

Gary Lee Kessens, 64, of Batesville, passed away Friday, February 14, 2014. Visitation will be held today, Tuesday, February 18, from 4 - 8 p.m. at Meyers Funeral Home, Batesville. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 19, 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Meyers Funeral Home, Batesville has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Roy G. Cordell

Roy G. Cordell, 77, of Versailles, passed away Thursday, February 13, 2014 at the Hospice of South Central Indiana in Columbus.

Mr. Cordell was born in Dry Fork, Virginia, the son of George and Lulu Cordell. He married Mary Pierce on July 21, 1987, and she survives.

Other survivors include three children, Deborah (Myron) Pluskota of Spring Hill, Florida, Brian Cordell of Hamilton, Ohio, Pamela Sue (Steven) Bosslet of Richlands, Virginia and his stepchildren Maria (Albert) Sturgill of Versailles and Forest Huddleston of Milan, brother Don (Joan) Cordell, Sister Nell Cordell, 11 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter Sherry Lynn Honnerlaws.

Roy was a former manager for Montgomery Ward and retired as a truck driver for Rapid Delivery in Cincinnati. He and his wife own and operate Four Paws Animal Boarding in Versailles.

Funeral services were held on Monday, February 17 at 12 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Mike Cantrell officiating. Memorials may be given to the donor’s choice in care of the funeral home. Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home was entrusted with the arrangements.

Michael D. Ensinger

Michael D. Ensinger, 56, of Versailles, passed away Friday, February 14, 2014, in Greensburg. He was born on June 1, 1957, the son of Robert and Phyllis Gross Ensinger.

He is survived by his mother and stepfather Phyllis and Jim Utter of Versailles; his companion Donna Lane of Aurora; two daughters Brandy Herbert and her fiance Bill McRoberts of Versailles and Katrina Ensinger of Versailles; one sister Diana Foster and her fiance Tim Lawler of Cincinnati.

Mr. Ensinger was a 1975 graduate of Jac-Cen-Del High School and was employed with Tom Sibbitt Chevrolet in Greensburg as a parts manager. Mike enjoyed spending time with his family and was active in sand drag racing.

Funeral services will be held today, Tuesday, February 18 at 10 a.m. at Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Don Buck and Rev. Steve Allen officiating. Burial will be in the Holton Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church in Osgood in care of the funeral home.

Hazel Mae Gilland

Hazel Mae Gilland, 89, of St. Petersburg, Fla., formerly of Osgood, passed away Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at her home in St. Petersburg. She was born September 28, 1924 in Lockland, Ohio, the daughter of Edward and Ethel Frances Jones Guth. She married George Charles Gilland, January 25, 1944, and he preceded her in death June 6, 1996.

She had been a member of the St. John’s Catholic Church in Osgood. In 1958, Hazel and her husband George started, owned and operated Green Valley Nursery near Osgood until the late 1970s. Along with this, she had also worked for the Jefferson County Proving Grounds. She was also a past employee of Bohner & Wagner Tax Service in Osgood. Her last job was in St. Petersburg where she worked as head bank teller for Bank of America for 11 years.

She was instrumental in helping start the Southeastern IN Head Start Program in Ripley, Dearborn, Franklin, and Switzerland counties from 1965 to 1968. Another project that she fought for and won, was the Water Shed Program which involved Ripley, Jennings and part of Decatur counties.

She is survived by two sons, George A. “Tony” (Judy) Gilland of Osgood, David Lee (Patty) Gilland of Hephzibah, Georgia; two daughters, Dora Lynne (Joe) McIntosh of Orlando, Florida, Kathleen Marie (Henry) Muse of St. Petersburg, Florida; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Two grandchildren and two great grandchildren preceded her in death along with one sister, Alica Scheffler.

Funeral services will be held today, Tuesday, February 18 10 a.m. at Neal’s Funeral Home, Osgood. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Irene Lavonne Messer

Irene Lavonne Messer, 59, of Cross Plains, passed away Monday, February 17, 2014, at the King’s Daughters’ Hospital, Madison. She was born in Hazard, Kentucky on January 19, 1955, the daughter of Arnold and Delphia Beverly Combs. She was married to Charles Messer and he preceded her in death on April 15, 2002.

Survivors include one son Gary Grigsby and his companion, Tammy Hollandsworth of Cross Plains; three daughters, Michelle (Eric) Hurst of Cross Plains, Audrey Grigsby and her companion Chris Lothridge of Versailles and Danielle Messer of Cross Plains; nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Also surviving are one brother, Randy Combs of Ackworth, Georgia; three sisters, Jennifer Combs and Brenda Adams both of Madison; and Glenda Leach of Hanover.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Ellis Combs and Robin Combs.

Mrs. Messer was a 1973 graduate of South Ripley High School. She was an LPN and had last worked at Manderley Health Care in Osgood. Irene was a member of the Cross Plains United Methodist Church.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 20 at 10:30 a.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Pastor Jerry Brooks officiating. Burial will be in the Methodist Cemetery, Cross Plains. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 19 from 5 - 8 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Cross Plains United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home.

Margaret Ann Carpenter

Margaret Ann Carpenter, 77, of Versailles passed away Thursday, February 13, 2014 at Dearborn County Hospital in Lawrenceburg. Margaret was born Tuesday September 29, 1936 in Ripley County, the daughter of William and Jessie (Henderson) White. She married Donald Carpenter in 1993 and he survives. She worked at US Shoe in Osgood for many years, retiring in 1990. She like growing roses, and singing and playing her guitar, but her passion in life was spending time with her husband, grandchildren and other family.

She was a member of the Cedar Creek Baptist Church at Osgood.

Mrs. Carpenter is survived by husband Donald Carpenter of Versailles; sons Richard (Eva) Dean Jr. of Dillsboro, James Dean Sr. of New Point, Martin Dean of Arizona; sisters Lettie Hicks of Osgood, Ethel Peters of Milan; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Margaret was preceded in death by one daughter Glenna Merida, one brother and two sisters.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 18 at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home in Milan with Pastor Garland Rudd officiating. Burial will be Greendale Cemetery at Osgood.
