Frank L. “Dicky” Klopp

Frank L. “Dicky” Klopp, 85, of Madison, was born on November 11, 1928 in Petersburg, Kentucky. He was the son of the late Ruthford Elias and Thelma Lyon Klopp. He had resided in Jefferson County since 1942 and was a graduate of Madison High School and Indiana University.

Dicky was inducted into the United States Army on July 17, 1946 in Indianapolis. During World War II he served in Company C 58th Signal Battalion. He was honorably discharged on November 8, 1947 with the rate of Technician Fifth Grade receiving the World War II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal Japan.

Dicky was united in marriage on July 21, 1953 to Wanda Black in Vevay. This happy union of 48 years was blessed with two sons and a daughter. He was employed for many years with Conn Organ Company in Madison until it closed and then worked for the U.S. Government at the Jefferson Proving Ground until his retirement.

He was an avid fan of basketball (especially the Hoosiers), baseball, and football. Frank loved working in his garden, sharing its bounty with others, antiquing and refinishing antiques. He was an avid runner for much of his life and never looked his age. Fishing was also a much loved hobby and he loved sharing his catch by hosting his annual family fish fry.

Frank died on Friday, January 31, 2014, at his home in Madison surrounded by his loving family.

Frank will be missed by his sons, Eric Klopp (Cindy) of Madison and Mark Klopp (Annette) of Berne; his daughter, Jana Klopp of Indianapolis; his grandchildren, Erin Lange (Greg) of Fishers, Justin Klopp of Bloomington, Tyler Klopp of Madison, Ashton and Brette Klopp of Berne; his great grandchildren, Stella and Henry Lange of Fishers; his sisters, Helen “Muffet” Lindsay of Louisville, Kentucky, Nell Gaye “Brownie” Rippe of Madison, Kathleen Chambers of Madison, Elyse “Weesie” Detmer (Wayne) of Madison, Judy Boles (Shafe) of Madison; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruthford Elias and Thelma Lyon Klopp; his wife of 48 years, Wanda Black Klopp, died June 19, 2001; his brothers, Edward E.”Bee” Klopp, died, Jan. 10, 2006 and David “Deken” Klopp, died March 19, 2012; his sisters, Jean “Hope” Henry, Virginia “Gina” Bersch, and Mary Faith “Fadie” Seaver.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, February 15, at 4 p.m. at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, Madison. Internment will be private in the Cliff Hill Cemetery in Versailles. Friends may call Saturday from 2 p.m.- 4 p.m. at the funeral home. A final salute and military honors will be conducted on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at the funeral home by Jefferson Post 9 of the American Legion and the Fort Knox Ceremonial Unit.

Lois Mockbee

Lois Mockbee, 82, of Milan, passed away Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at the King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison. She was born at Elmrock in Knott County, Kentucky on January 22, 1932, the daughter of Jasper and Mary Compton Fugate. She was married to Harry G. Mockbee on October 9, 1955 and he survives.

Other survivors include two daughters Ruth (Rev. Gordon) Shinkle of Lawrenceburg and Nancy (Scott) Kohlmeier of Greendale; one son John (Belinda) Mockbee of Versailles; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren; two brothers Jay (Sarah) Fugate of Milan and William Edward Fugate of Holton; two sisters Gail (Leonard) Haase of Milan and Phyllis (Bob) Crosthwaite of Moores Hill.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Kenneth E. Mockbee, her brothers Granville Fugate and Herbert Fugate, and her sister Pauline Carden.

Mrs. Mockbee was a 1950 graduate of Milan High School. She was a former employee of Busteed’s 5 &10 in Milan, Bruns IGA in Milan, and was also an independent beauty operator.

Lois was a member of the Cedar Creek Community Church near Osgood and had served for several years as a den mother and troop leader for the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. She was an outstanding cook and seamstress, making many of her children’s clothes, and also enjoyed bowling.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 8 at 12 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Rev. Garland Rudd of the Cedar Creek Community Church and Lois’s son-in-law Rev. Gordon Shinkle of the Dearborn Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in the Grandview Memorial Garden near Madison. Visitation will be Saturday from 10 a.m. until time of services. Memorials may be given to the Cedar Creek Community Church or Rescue 30 in care of the funeral home.

James Michael Bevis

James Michael Bevis, 24, of Patriot, passed away Sunday, February 2, 2014. Funeral services will be held all in one day, Friday, Feb. 7 at Neal’s Funeral Home, Osgood, with visitation from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with funeral services immediately following. Burial will be in the St. Paul Methodist Cemetery, Sunman. Memorials may be given to the family. Neal’s Funeral Home, Osgood, is in charge of arrangements.

Michael G. “Mike” Craven

Michael G “Mike” Craven, 67, of Aurora, passed away Sunday, February 2, 2014 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was born Friday, February 22, 1946 in Batesville the son of the late Warren Craven and Verna Naegele Craven.

He worked for LMS Water Conservatory, retiring after over 27 years of service. He was a 1964 graduate of Milan High School. Mike was a member of the U.S. Auto Club Mechanic. He loved racing, and even served as a pit crew member for Johnny Parsens, Jr. racing all over the south and east regions of the U.S. Mike also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Survivors include his mother, Verna Craven of Milan; sisters, Phyllis (Ralph) Joerger of Guilford, Melissa (Michael) McMannon of Independence, KY; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Warren.

Friends will be received from 5-8 p.m., Thursday, February 6 at the Rullman Hunger Funeral Home, Aurora. Services will be held at the funeral home, Friday, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Tom Holt officiating. Internment will follow in the Craven Cemetery, Milan.

Cheryl Ann Scott

Cheryl Ann Scott, 59 of Madison, near Canaan, passed away Monday, February 3, 2014. Funeral services will be held Sunday, February 9 at 1 p.m. at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, Madison, with burial in the Brooksburg Cemetery in Brooksburg. Visitation will be Saturday, February 8 from 4-8 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Garrett R. Goodpaster

Garrett R. Goodpaster, 23, of Versailles passed away Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at the Margaret Mary Community Hospital in Batesville. He was born at Madison on April 27, 1990, the son of Robert and Denise Adkins Goodpaster.

Survivors include his parents; his sister Annie; maternal grandmother Mrs. Jean Adkins of Versailles; along with several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Also as part of Garrett’s family were his caregivers the late Carolyn Lee, Cindy Stephen, and his cousin Shannon Adkins. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Carl and Muriel Goodpaster, and his maternal grandfather Alfred Adkins.

Garrett was a 2011 graduate of South Ripley High School and was a member of the Tanglewood Baptist Church. He loved go carts and made many friends and touched many lives in his 23 years.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 8 at 10 a.m. at the Tanglewood Baptist Church with Rev. Stephen Mullins officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday from 5-8 p.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles and from 9 a.m. until time of services Saturday at the church. Memorials may be given to the Tanglewood Baptist Church or Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
