Roger G. Haessig

Roger G. Haessig, 73, of Syracuse, formerly of Milan and Berne, passed away Monday, April 7, 2014 at his home. He was born June 13, 1940, in Milan, the son of Loren H. Haessig and Alma D. (Roberts) Haessig. He married Ellamae Speakman on August 21, 1965, in Union Chapel United Methodist Church, Decatur, and she survives.

Roger was a member of Mt. Hope Church of the Nazarene in Berne where he had served as treasurer and Sunday school secretary. He was a graduate of Milan High School in 1958. He received his bachelor’s degree from Asbury College and his masters in education from St. Francis College. He taught math at North Judson Middle School for five years and had worked at Gilpin, Inc. in Decatur for 26 years.

Survivors include his wife, Ellamae Haessig of Syracuse; sons, David M. (Kim) Haessig of Milford, Daryl L. (Susan) Haessig of Syracuse; daughter, Karen (Sunu) Thomas of South Bend; brothers, Donald Haessig and Nelson Haessig, both of Milan; and nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Robert Haessig.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 12, at Mt. Hope Church of the Nazarene, Berne with Pastor David Boots officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Berne. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday, and one hour Saturday prior to the funeral at Mt Hope Church. Memorials may be given to the Mt. Hope Church of the Nazarene. Ruby L. Ponsler

Ruby L. Ponsler, 100, of Butlerville, passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2014. Friends may call at the Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home and Cremation Services in North Vernon on Thursday, April 10, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 11, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Inge Clara Fluegeman

Inge Clara Fluegeman, 87, of Milan, passed away Monday, April 7, 2014, at Ripley Crossing. Inge was born Monday, September 27, 1926, in Cincinnati, the daughter of Bernhard and Anna (Agenessens-Mayer) Schoene. She married Gilbert Fluegeman who survives.
Inge was a homemaker and a member of the St. Charles Catholic Church at Milan, was a great seamstress and made American Girl and Barbie Doll clothes, liked traveling, gardening, playing cards, and spending time with her family.

Inge is survived by her husband, Gilbert; sons Ken (Marge) Fluegeman of Moores Hill, Doug (fiancé Robin) Fluegeman of Taylor Mill, Kentucky; daughters Deborah Rothermel of Dayton, Ohio, Chris (Rick) Denton of Milan, Sharon (Charley) Mahoney of Ft. Thomas, Ky, Therese Graves of Franklin, Janine Fluegeman of Milan; 17 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons David and Michael Fluegeman.

Funeral mass will be 2 p.m. Friday, April 11, at St. Charles Catholic Church, Milan with Father Frank Eckstein officiating. Burial will follow in New Craven Cemetery at Milan. Visitation will be 12-2 p.m., Friday at the funeral home. Gladys R. Burton

Gladys R. Burton, 69, of Osgood, formerly of Elrod, passed away Monday, April 7, 2014 at her home. She was born Thursday, April 5, 1945 in Heidelberg, Kentucky, the daughter of Archie and Laura (Moore) Addison. She married Melvin Woodrow Burton April 6, 1963, and he survives.

Gladys had been a CNA at the Dillsboro Manor, and was a member of the Cornerstone Baptist Church at Milan. She had a strong Christian faith, and loved going to church and spending time with her family. She also enjoyed her flower gardens, sewing, eating out, and shopping.

Gladys is survived by husband, Melvin “Woody” Burton; son Melvin Ray (Amy) Burton of Osgood; daughters Ruth Ann (Clark) Tyler of North Vernon and Faith Burton of Osgood; sister Edith (Richard) Lane of Hudson, Florida; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Kim Sue, four brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be Friday, April 11, 2014, 10 a.m. at the Cornerstone Baptist Church in Milan with Pastor Rich Mosley officiating. Burial will follow in Green Cemetery at Elrod. Doyal Bryant

Doyal Bryant, 89, of Milan passed away Wednesday April 9, 2014 at Ripley Crossing at Milan. He was born Thursday, October 16, 1924 in Youngs Creek, Kentucky, the son of Charles and Myrtle (Hamblin) Bryant. He married Lucy Myree (Bryant) Bryant October 9, 1951 and she survives. Doyal served his country in the Army during WWII and then worked for F.H. Lawson in Cincinnati for many years. He was a member of the Milan First Baptist Church, the Milan VFW and the coffee shop club. He enjoyed listening to his scanner and tinkering in the garage.

He is survived by his wife, Lucy, sons Charles Bryant of Milan, Andrew (Bobbie) Bryant of Versailles, Darrell Bryant of Bloomington, and Harold Bryant of Unionville, daughters Betty Henschen of Madison and Glenda (Billy) Raisor of Milan, brothers Virgil and Vernon Bryant, sister Vivian Jackson, 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by a brother Maynard Bryant.

Local visitation will be Friday April 11, 6-8 p.m. at Laws-Carr-Moore Funeral Home, Milan. Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday April 13, at McCreary County Funeral Home, Whitley City, Kentucky with visitation 1-3 on Sunday. Burial will follow with full military rites in Higgambotham Cemetery at Whitley City.
