Ohio Rod hosts Pitch, Hit & Run competition for area youth

Gary Franklin
SPORTS EDITOR

On Sunday afternoon, April 22 area youth were afforded the opportunity to participate in a free MLB (Major League Baseball) organized Pitch, Hit and Run (PHR) competition. Heading up the local event at the Ohio Rod Products recreational park and ball field was Brian Samples, former Jac-Cen-Del Lady Eagle and South Ripley Lady Raider softball coach and SRHS Head Basketball Coach. Currently out of the coaching business, Samples continues to be a shining light in the community to help afford opportunity for the area youth in his current role at ORP. His quick action and heads up organization of this event has also landed the interest of organizers that the next round will be held at ORP as well.

Pictured above from left they include: David Bradshaw, Brian Samples, Gil Landwehr, Bob Meyer, Kyle Jolly, Brad Samples, Steven Franklin, Steve Ollier, Mike Ploeger and Greg Huntington. On May 18, most southern Indiana competitors advancing from their local first round events will come to the Versailles ORP Park to compete for the right to advance to the third level in the competitions.

The PHR event competitions were divided by age: 7/8, 9/10, 11/12 & 13/14 with male and female divisions in each age group. A tie score in the top three of an event also advances to challenge in the next round of eliminations.
