South Ripley Raider senior Austin Allen conquers four ORVC T&F events for first place finishes

Gary Franklin
SPORTS EDITOR

What has energized senior South Ripley Raider Austin Allen to put so much time and effort into his track and field and cross country achievements one might ask. Desire, determination, and resolve to prove himself after having been doubted. Only he and few others know for sure, but the end result is rewarding to SRHS athletic programs and Allen himself when he competes.

Lofting to new dimensions, one meet at a time, Austin Allen pictured left, sails to a first place finish.

The thing that comes to mind is when one door closes, another window of opportunity often reveals itself and for Allen, that seems to fit.

There are several local athletes in our community that deserve special recognition for their direct approach to making themselves better, and today we’re recognizing Allen.

A burning desire to excel is obvious. During the 2014 ORVC Track and Field Meet hosted by Jac-Cen-Del High School on Thursday, May 15, Allen captured the top spot in three Dashes and the Boys Long Jump.

Four events in a single Meet. Is that a SRHS school record? Unconfirmed at this point, it is remarkable at the least.
Allen bested junior Rising Sun Shiner Jake Uhlmansiek in the 100M Dash. Allen’s time 11.62, Uhlmansiek 11.90.
Again Allen bested junior Rising Sun Shiner Jake Uhlmansiek in the 200M Dash. Allen’s time 23.83, Uhlmansiek at 24.33.

Allen’s winning 400M Dash run at 50.45 was seconded by South Ripley Raider senior teammate Ryan Lengerich at 55.21.

The fourth event of the 2014 annual ORVC T&F Meet that had Austin Allen written all over it when completed was the boy’s Long Jump where Austin bounded for a winning distance of 19' 5". Allen’s distance is a solid 10.75" farther than his closest competitor, Rising Sun Shiner senior Austin Martin at 18' 6.25".
